    if the qr code require licensing fees in the first place, its not gonna be the one used for worldwide transaction today, it will be something else

    The technology was too ahead of its time. In 1994 nearly nobody had a digital camera, so the code was readable only using a 3d infrared scanner, which in itself is not portable.
