The Camp Kinser Festival, being held at the Marine Corps installation in Urasoe City on Sept. 6-7, promises to be a fun-filled event.
This year’s event’s, featuring a theme “ichariba chōde” is an Okinawan phrase that means “once we meet, we are like brothers and sisters.”
The festival’s headliner is Crystal Kay, a nationally acclaimed J-pop and R&B singer. Known for hit songs such as “Boyfriend – partⅡ-” and “Koi ni Ochitara”, Kay is a graduate of Nile C. Kinnick High School at the Yokosuka Naval Base in mainland Japan.
Another feature of the event is a skate park that will be set up on site. Gear rental is available for free and you can participate in “S.K.A.T.E.,” a competition inspired by the basketball H.O.R.S.E-style game, where players must replicate shots of the other players. You can register for the event at the festival. There will be a demonstration by local skaters as well.
No festival would be complete without games, rides and a variety of festival food. This upcoming event is no exception. You will be able to enjoy BBQ, Filipino food, Kebabs, Hawaiian food, etc.

*This event is open to SOFA, Japanese and American citizens. DoD ID card holders can access via any open gate on Camp Kinser. Non-DoD ID card holders need to access through Gate 2. A picture ID is needed to show citizenship
