Iwai Akie and Chisato of Japan have become the first twins in history to each win on the LPGA Tour.

Akie on Sunday (18 August) joined Chisato as a rookie tour winner in women’s golf with a four-stroke victory at The Standard Portland Classic after a final round 6-under 66 for a 24-under 264 total.

Chisato – who gave her sister a run for her money by coming in third five shots behind – had broken through first in May when she won at the Riviera Maya Open in Mexico.

The Iwais are only the fourth pair of sisters – but first as twins – to win on the LPGA Tour. The other three are Jessica and Nelly Korda; Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn; and Annika and Charlotta Sorenstam.

The 23-year-old Akie, a six-time winner on the Japanese tour who had been runner-up twice this year, was over the moon and in tears after capturing her maiden title.

She is the fifth Japanese winner on the tour in 2025, following Chisato, Takeda Rio, Saigo Mao and Yamashita Miyu.

“We have a really great relationship,” Akie said of her sister. “We can push each other. Chisato had already won so I felt pressed to win myself, being honest.

“I hope we can make the LPGA more exciting. I hope we can keep winning together.”
