Jakobe Tharpe, former Rockvale track star and rising junior at Auburn, claimed more gold recently in the 110-meter hurdles at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
With the win, he will head to Tokyo, Japan, to represent the United States at the World Championships from Sept. 13-21.
Tharp ran a personal best 13.01 seconds to clip the time he ran a few months ago at the same venue to take the NCAA title in the 110-meter hurdles.
He defeated two runners, Cordell Tinch and Dylan Beard who were at the last US Olympic trials by a combined three-one hundredth of a second.
He was outside in lane one and took control, winning the race to cap a season in which he won two NCAA Championships, the 60-meter hurdles indoor and the 110-meter hurdles outdoor.
He was also the SEC indoor champ in the 60-meter hurdles and got the silver at the 110-meters at the SEC outdoors, but got revenge on Kendrick Smallwood from Texas at the NCAA Championships as he was disqualified after slapping the last hurdle down on the course at Eugene.
