Western League Chunichi Orix 5-11 (16th, Nagoya)
Orix outfielder Ryoma Nishikawa (30) returned to action on the 16th in the Western League game against Chunichi Dragons (Nagoya). Having recovered from an injury to his left ankle sustained in the July 1st game against Seibu (Naha), he played the full game as leadoff hitter and designated hitter. He finished with one hit and two RBIs in four At Bat, including a timely single to center field with two hit RBI runners on first and second in the seventh inning. “Even though I was cornered, I was pleased that I was able to hit a floating fork into center fielder” he said. “I didn’t feel very good in my first and second at-bats, but in my third, fourth, and fifth at-bats, I was able to see the ball better than I expected,” he said, demonstrating his adaptability.
He had a batting average of .314 with 4 Home Run and 31 RBI in 69 games, but unfortunately had to leave the team. Aiming for a speedy return, he has been working hard on his rehabilitation. “I’ve prepared to swing to a certain extent,” he said, swinging with 100% of his strength on this day. Regarding base running he said, “It worries me a little, but there aren’t many games left so I can’t afford to say that. I have to deal with (the anxiety) until the end of the year,” revealing his resolve and responsibility as a star hitter.
He is scheduled to play left defense in the game on the 17th, and if there are no problems, he is expected to return to the first team for the game against Nippon-Ham on the 19th (ESCON). “I have the desire (to be on the first team as soon as possible), but it’s meaningless if I don’t become a valuable player. If I get promoted, I have to produce solid results, and I want to strive for results,” he said, looking only ahead. (Nambu Shunta)
