Project 47 Ep. #4 | Kagoshima –Riding The South Coast & Izakaya Nights
Japan is a unique country made up of 47 prefectures. My goal is to ride them all. This is project 47. [Music] [Music] When I woke up, the clouds had rolled in and my bike, my tent, everything outside was soaked. I guess I’d take it a little easy this morning and wait for everything to dry off. All right, guys. Just something you might get a kick out of. I just did the best pack down of my tent I’ve done to date. I mean, it went perfect. Super smooth. Great pack down. Got everything locked down, ready to go. Keys are inside the tent. [Music] All right, we’ll get another another run at another practice run. You’re going to get better. While I waited for everything to dry out, some cool little go-kart size Willies Jeeps turned up. I mean, they were loud as hell, but they looked kind of fun. Turned out it was a tour you could do just to cruise around the lake. It was time to hit the road again and leave the camp. I really enjoyed this spot. Highly recommended if you were in the area. The weather forecast showed a high chance of rain throughout the day, and there wasn’t a lot to see along the way. So, I decided today would just be about cruising along the southern coast, checking out some of the views, and just enjoying the roads. About 20 minutes down the road, the rain got me. Luckily, I saw a convenience store, so I pulled up and grabbed a nice hot cup of coffee and thought I’d just wait it out and see what happened. It didn’t last too long. The south coast road was a mixture of long straights and small windy mountain passes. [Music] It would take most of the day just to make the distance, but it was a lot of fun and I figur I’d let myself get a little lost. See what I can find. Heat. Heat. I took a short break and decided to give the campsite a call. The man told me that the road up to the campsite had been washed out and wouldn’t be open again until April. I guess I should have called early to check. With the sun getting low and the temperatures dropping, I figured it’d be a good night to grab a hotel for a change and have a nice hot shower. Maybe get some food and a cold beer somewhere. This coast road, these views were spectacular. I could have ridden this for another day or two. Died happy. But it was time to make tracks and head towards the nearest city, Satsuma Sendai. I found a small hotel that would do just fine for a night. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] [Music] Oh man, we made it. That expressway run killed me. They got so cold so quick, but we’re here. So, let’s go get checked in the hotel. All right, guys. So, we found a hotel for the night and uh had a shower, which was unbelievable. And now I’m at this cool isizakaya here in Satma and having some chicken wings, some beer. I have these two lovely ladies that are working here that have been really wonderful to talk to. Uh really cool place. I’ll uh I’ll drop a the name just below. If you do come to the area, you can check it out. But yeah, it’s uh it’s weird to be not in the tent. So, Japanese is really cool. So, they’re basically like a pub. Um they’re like a a place where you can come sit down and get a whole bunch of different food, drink beer, talk with the uh the people that are here as well. Also, it’s a real friendly atmosphere. It’s really kind of a cool place to chill. And uh there’s nothing more quintessentially Japanese than going down to Isizakaya and having a few drinks. So, if you do come to Japan, that’s the ticket. Best thing you can do. And they’re all different. They all have different types of food. So, enjoy. [Music]
