Hey guys, I’m about to get my first car on my own. I have a 2014 Camry currently which I’m planning to give to my little brother which means I’m in search of a daily driver.

My current options are a Toyota Soarer, RHD 4th gen Prelude and an S15.

I’m not stranger to the scene and I understand the depth of the S chassis craze.

But i feel like a question that isn’t asked often is if they’re good for daily driving? I understand it’s a late 90s Nissan but i found a pretty much stock 5 speed S15 in my price range with under 90k miles.

Or should it just be kept as a track/meet car? I’m not planning on keeping it stock I’d like to build it up like the reference image shown but what do you guys think?

I wouldn’t daily a 25 year old enthusiast car, no.

If you’re going to daily any car you have to ask yourself how well versed you are on maintaining it. How well can it be maintained and how much assistance you will need maintaining it (garage support, parts etc).

I think once you’ve answered those questions to yourself in an honest manner you will find your answer. If you are capable, there is no reason you can’t daily an S15 but you have to know how to maintain it.

  3. I have daily my S15 for the past 2 years and overall it’s been fine. The only thing I needed to change was the clutch. Overall it’s been fine. Doing regular maintenance is fine. Plenty of parts to find here (Japan).

I would say if anything do you have the funds and resources to repair anything if something were to go wrong in your area.
I know overseas it’s pricier and harder to find than here.

It can be done if you wanted to. If youre going to mod it go for function over form. Make sure its drivable for the street and not just smooth tracks. I have mine with 6 years and while they have their faults its no different to any other car. Most of the issues I’ve come across have been from me modifying and it having a knock on effect. I havnt used mine as a daily long term but ive used it for a couple weeks here and there. They’re not bad on fuel either if you drive it sensibly. On the other hand it will devour every drop it can take if you have a heavy right foot.

Why not. Thousands of people used to back in the day. Only problem is that once the Silvia and drift craze started most cars got flogged. If you can find a good one, why not. But warning. Most exported cars are flogged. Japanese keep the best ones here.

S chassis are not such Celica/Civic’s in terms of ‘only mantence’ ,you need to look foward, it’s a 20+ **sport car,** meaning that sooner or later you gotta replace 20+old parts, hard to find those, common problems in this plataform (got a few) etc, but definitely can daily drive if you understand it, it’s not like you wanna daily drive a Regera.

But saying ”I’m not planning on keeping it stock” Then I’d recomend to get over this idea.

  7. Use to daily a S14 Kouki is minimal issues. As long as you’re looking after it and servicing it when needed you won’t run into any issues.
