The Taiyo Seimei WSS 2025 comes to a conclusion this weekend in Sapporo as the Grand Final Tournament takes place on Sunday, August 17th.

With the top 8 teams from the three rounds drawn in the quarterfinals, the four bottom teams (except the Challenge team) will be competing for survival in the top tier in Japan’s Women’s 7s Series next season against the top three sides from the Challenger Tournament held in Fukuoka in May.

The schedule of the Grand Final Tournament in Sapporo is on the JRFU website. The quarterfinals are based on the seedings on the log after the three rounds.

Quarterfinal 2 – Tokyo Sankyu Phoenix vs Yokohama TKM
Quarterfinal 3 – Nagato Blue Angels vs Hokkaido Barbarians Diana
Quarterfinal 4 – Nippon Sport Science University Women’s Rugby Team vs Nanairo Prism Fukuoka

Teams competing in the promotion/relegation matches:

The top three teams, excluding the Challenge team, will compete against the top three teams in the Challenger Tournament and earn the right to participate as core teams in the Taiyo Seimei WSS 2026 season.

Yokogawa Musashino Artemi-Stars (9th overall) x Waseda University (Challenger S / 3rd place)
Arukas Queen Kumagaya Venus (10th overall) x Bravw Louve (Challenger S / 2nd place)
Otemon Gakuin University Women’s Rugby Club VENUS (11th overall) x Japan University of Economics (Challenger S / 1st place)

There will be an exhibition match featuring the Challenge Team (12th overall) vs. Azalea Seven (Challenger S/4th place). The Challenge Team is the JRFU Development side, mostly featuring younger players and is not subject to demotion.

How To Watch Taiyo Seimei Women’s Sevens Series 2025 

All of the tournaments are free to attend. The JRFU has confirmed that the matches will be streamed for free on JAPAN RUGBY TV.
