What to Buy in MId-Osaka: A Tourist’s Guide [Japan Trip Tips]
Hello everyone, welcome to our channel.
Today we’re going to ask a simple question to travelers in the vibrant Shinsaiashi
shopping district in the heart of Osaka. What did you buy in Japan? From
unusual souvenirs to hidden gems. Let’s find out what people are buying and
where they found them. Let’s get started. T-shirts from Japan. Oh, good.
For souvenirs? Souvenirs. Oh, nice. And what’s this? What is this,
babe? More t-shirts. More t-shirts. Okay. We bought a dodger hat. We are from LA.
Yeah. But it’s not in USA, too? Not like this. No. Not like this. Oh, different? Yeah. Great.
Okay. They’re different than the ones in LA. Oh, great. There’s a bling bling. This is in LA.
This is another guy emblem. Is it only in Japan? Yah, only in Japan. Oh, really? I didn’t
know that. Wow. So, it’s very rare. Yes. Oh, very cool. And they show here is their
logo?. Yes. Wow. Not in United States. No? Wow. It looks very expensive in USA.
Wow. That’s Smokey Betts Bobblehead. Okay. New Era. It’s an American brand, but the
Show Otani model is very rare because it’s only available in Japan. There are
other Japan-only models available, so if you’re interested, we recommend you
check them out in advance. You can also buy it at this store, Home Game.
They also sell Pokemon sandals. Where are you from? We are from Norway.
Norway? Good country. It’s very far from here. Yeah. How long will you stay in Japan?
Two weeks. Two weeks? Two weeks. Okay, good. And where did you go? We’ve only been in Osaka
and then we’re going to Kyoto and Mount Fuji and Tokyo. Oh, you go to Mount Fuji and climb up?
No, no, no. Only to see to see. Do you want to go to the five levels? Okay. You can go by bus to
go to the five levels. Okay, maybe we’ll do that, we don’t know yet. Actually I can tell you
about it, actually I’m a tourguide. Ah, okay. And what did you buy? We bought some pairs of shoes. Two shoes? Two shoes. Why did
you buy the Onitsuka Tiger in Japan? They are very cool shoes. Is it famous
in Norway too? No, but we’ve seen people travel to Japan and buy these. We don’t have
them in Norway, so we just have to get them. There are two stores on this
street. Both are popular stores, so you may have to wait in some cases. The
larger store allows you to enter more smoothly. Popular products are displayed in an
easy to find place inside the store. Onitsuka Tiger is actually the roots of ASICS, one
of the world’s top sports brands. ASICS is famous for its high performance running
shoes, while Onitsuka Tiger is a stylish retro sneaker brand with a Japanese
heritage. Whether you’re into fashion, fitness, or both, you’re sure to find
something you love from either brand. Where are you from? I’m from Texas, America,
USA. Okay. How long will you stay? Only two more days. Two more days? So you’re on a cruise?
Yeah, we were only 4 days, or three days. Where did you go today? We went to
Osaka Castle. And then we came here. Yeah. What did you buy? Shoes. Nike. Oh
Nike shoes? But you can buy it anywhere. Exactly. I don’t know why, it’s cheaper. Oh the
different price?. Yeah. Wow. Okay. Like 30%. 30%? Well, but Nike is an American brand? Yeah, I
know. But it’s made in Asia. And Trump’s tariffs. Where you from? Well, we’re from Malaysia.
Malaysia. Yes. Welcome. Malaysia, which city? Kuala Lumpur. Oh, good city. Yeah.
And you purchased many stuffs. Yes. Yes. We buy a lot of stuff to bring
back home because some of it being, what do they call this, ordered by a friend
back home. By the way, we are here for the World Expo Osaka 2025. Our characters are
here, Upin and Ipin, which are the most popular cartoon characters in Southeast Asia,
so we’re here. And this would be our last day, so we do some shopping.
Not all for us actually, for someone back home. Okay. Great. So
shopping day today? Shopping day today. Show me what did you buy? Is it a shirt? A
bag. We have bags. We have shoes. Many bags for souvenirs? Souvenirs for my friend. Wow.
Great! Shirt. And then we have summer bags. It’s also bags? Also bags. We have shoes, shirts,
chocolate, chocolate. It ranges. But actually, I think you can purchase shoes in Malaysia
too. Correct. Some of these shoes, the ones that we purchased, are not something
that is available in Malaysia. It is what they call this is… Japan limited edition for
Japan only. So that is why we’re looking for it. ASICS is a Japanese brand. Yes. ASICS is a
Japanese brand. And then we got something from Onitsuka Tiger as well which is kind of
a popular brand. Is it famous? Yes. Quite a name in Malaysia. And what we bought
is something that is not available in Malaysia. So that’s the reason we bought it.
On top of that, it is taxfree. So this is another motivation for us to purchase today.
Yes. Very important. Correct. And in front of the Onitsuka Tiger it has many lines.
Yes. Is it famous for foreigners? Yes, indeed. That is why we come early. We understand
that it opens at 11:00. So, we are here at 10:45. Once it opens, we’re already in. Ohhhh!
The line is quite long. Yeah. The longer the date takes, the longer the line
would be. So, we decided to come early. I see a lot of people
walking around with this bag. Sneakers are the main items sold here, but you
can also buy clothes from sports manufacturers. There are many brands lined up, so you can
compare them carefully before purchasing. Japan people are very peaceful, very
helpful people. I love Japan. Oh thank you. And where are you from? Turkey. How long
will you stay in Japan? How long will I stay? Eight days. Eight days in Osaka? Osaka is
the first day today. First day. Oh, you visit today? Yesterday, yes. Oh, welcome.
Before we visited uh Tokyo and Kyoto and then Osaka and then Gotenba and then Turkey.
Oh, okay. Good trip. And what did you purchase? What did you buy? What did I buy? Uniqlo t-shirts.
Oh, many clothes. Closes and pants? Yes. Is it in Turkish too? Is Uniqlo in Turkey? No, not
Turkey. Oh, so how did you know it? By TikTok or Instagram? Instagram. Oh, Instagram.
Okay. And you also purchase…? Underwear. Underwear? Yes. It’s very cheap. Yes. Cheaper.
Okay. Thank you. Enjoy Japan. Thank you so much. Where from? Argentina. Argentina.
Actually, we wanted a bit of beach, so we chose Okinawa first. Oh yeah. You know,
just not to jump into a big city as Tokyo. So, we had a little bit of peace prior to going to Tokyo.
But Tokyo made a very good impression on us. Okay. It is a very nice city. There are so many people,
but the people don’t seem to be stressed. Oh, yeah. So, we like the Japanese way of living.
Oh, great. Thank you. And what did you buy? Clothes. Clothing. Yeah. Oh, Uniqlo? Uniqlo.
It’s a bag. For our daughter, for our son. And what’s this? That’s matcha tea. Ah, okay.
Unilo has stores all over the world, but in Japan, you can buy them especially cheaply. For example,
shirts with a wide variety of colors are 990 yen, which is about $6.80. In Uniqlo in America,
they cost more than $14.90. Socks are 390 yen for one pair or 990 yen for three pairs.
Something that can be bought for about $2.60 per pair costs $4.90 in America. Cotton underwear is
590 yen or $4, but is $6.90 in America. T-shirts with various designs such as Disney, One Piece,
and Pokémon are $19.90 or $13.60, but are $24.90 in America. Moreover, there is a much greater
variety in Japan and many limited edition designs. You can buy them very cheaply. Tips: I will
introduce places where you can buy Unilo, ABC Mart, and Anosuka Tiger with fewer
people and more comfortably later. Which city do you like? Osaka. Why? Uh it’s just
less people, very friendly people and the food here has been the best I’ve ever had. Wow. Great.
And is it different between Osaka and Tokyo? The people. It’s a lot more people in Tokyo,
more crowded, more dense. But this we like, it’s more spread out. Oh, okay. By the way,
what did you buy? I bought Rikuro cheesecake. It’s very famous. Yeah, I got the cheesecake.
I got the cake, two pastries and a pudding. Wow. How did you know this
shop? Tik Tok or Instagram, one of the two. Oh, Instagram? Wow. Great.
Osaka’s famous confectionery, Uncle Rikuro, has a fluffy and light texture and is always freshly
baked. Founded in 1956, Uncle Rikuro’s cheesecake is characterized by its fluffy and soft texture.
Each piece is carefully baked to have the perfect balance of creaminess and lightness. You can
watch the cake being baked right in front of you, and the staff will ring a bell when it’s done,
so you can enjoy yourself while you wait in line. If you don’t mind a cheesecake that was baked 2
hours ago, you can also buy one without waiting. And how about Japan? Very nice. Very nice? Very
good people. Very good food. Very clean. Very good. Okay. Where is your recommended place?
Where? Yeah. Kyoto. Kyoto is good for culture, a lot of history. Osaka is
very good for eating. Oh, yeah. And Tokyo has a little
bit of everything. So, yeah. And where did you go in Kyoto? We went to the…
don’t remember the name, but Fushimi Inari, bamboo forest. We went to… Kiyomizu? No, the other
temple, Kurama-dera, is very famous, Black Tower. Kyoto tower? Yeah. And how about
the food? The food was interesting. So I tried very good Udon noodles, and some Ramen.
And here in Osaka, more Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki. Takoyaki in Osaka? In Osaka. Yeah. Very good. Very
good. Okay. And what did you buy, these stuff? Yeah, just some plushies, some stickers. Souvenir
or for kids? For kids and for me. Oh, for you too? I’m a Pokemon fan. Okay. So I bought one thing
for me, and the rest for my daughter. Oh okay. His shirt is so nice. Pikachu. He got
this made with his name. Wow. So cool. Oh, it says it. That’s his name. Yeah.
So, it really says what he put. Pokemon Center and other
department store anime goods. It is located on the ninth floor of
Daimaru Department Store. Some people enjoy taking commemorative photos
in front of the Pokemon statue, and there are many Pokémon goods in the store.
On the same floor, there is a jump shop where you can buy anime goods such as One Piece and
Naruto. At the department store next door, Parco, you can enjoy the Lego store where you can
enjoy the Lego that created Osaka’s tourist spots, and you can also purchase popular Ghibli
goods such as Totoro and Howl’s Moving Castle. The floors are connected, so you can move
between them without having to go down to the first floor, which is very convenient.
What is your favorite food in Japan? Fish, very good. Ramen. Ramen, Udon, everything. And
you can enjoy Kobe beef tomorrow in Kobe. Oh, yes. Yes, of course. Actually, I can tell
you the recommended restaurant in Kobe, because I live in Kobe. Oh, really? Yes. And I’m
a tour guide. Amazing. Cool. Yeah. And by the way, what did you purchase? Some knives.
Proper Japanese kitchen knives. Oh, looks good. Yes. Very nice. In Tokyo or Osaka here?
Osaka here. Yeah. But I think you can purchase knives in your country too, but why do you buy
here? It’s cheaper here. But also you’re in Japan where it’s being made so… Oh, good quality.
Yeah. Wow. Great. It is a beautiful knife. Nice decoration. Nice pattern and very sharp.
Jikkou Cutlery. The knives that have inherited Japanese
traditions are also popular and are visited by a wide range of people from professional
chefs to ordinary people who cook at home. Each knife is forged by hand and some have an
integrated blade and handle making them easy to use and durable. Another attraction is that
you can actually pick them up and choose them. Can you show me what you purchased? We purchased
some… In Sanrio? Sanrio. Hello Kitty stuff. For your daughters?. For the daughters and some kids.
Ah, Kuromi. You like Kuromi? No, it’s my sister. Ah, okay. Good. So beautiful. And Cinnamoroll.
Yeah, just the same thing. This is Cinnamoroll. Ah, Cinnamoroll. Are they famous in the
United States? Hello Kitty is famous all over, they’re famous, I would say so. I think
in California there’s a store, too. Ah, great. And what did you buy? Another? No, some
Labubu and clothing. Okay. Thank you very much. You’re welcome. Have a great day,
man. You too! Thank you so much. Sanrio. There are many other popular
characters besides Hello Kitty, and you can purchase a variety of goods
Everything. The food, anime figurines and we picked up some manga for our
friends and like Gacha. Gacha Pon. Yeah, lots of random little knicknacks. I spent
so much money at the crane games and won nothing. Sweet smile. [Father talks
with little kid in Turkish] Wow. What is Gacha Pon? It is a Japanese capsule
toy vending machine. You put in a few coins, turn the knob, and small toys and plastic capsules
come out at random. The name Gacha Pon comes from Gacha, the sound of turning the handle,
and Pon, the sound of the capsules falling. They have all kinds of products including
anime figurines and cute animals. You can find gacha pon everywhere including train
stations and shopping malls. They are also available at airports. So it’s a good idea to
use up any leftover coins when you go home. Okay. Where’re you from?
From Turkey. Turkey. Okay. How long will you stay? One week.
One week. And where did you go? Osaka Namba Sakai and another place just between
this destination we have visited. Okay and what did you purchase? Uniqlo? Yes. It’s a school bag
for my daughter. Oh, is it a school bag? Yes, school bag. Wow. So cool and very light.
Yeah, I think this is made in Japan. Ah, it’s Montbell, it’s very famous. Oh, we don’t
know. And is it also Uniqlo? Uniqlo. Oh, purchased for your daughter? Yeah, my daughter and
my wife. Wow, beautiful. And how about you? What did you purchase? School bag, Japanese style?
Oh, it’s very famous. Can you show me? Wow. So cool. For your kids?
Wow. It looks very tough. Where did you buy it? Oh, Edion.
Just over there. Yes. Oh, okay. School bags used by Japanese elementary school
students are called randoseru and are sold on the seventh floor of a large electronics retailer
called Edion. They are very durable and functional because they are used everyday for 6 years.
For that reason, some people buy them as souvenirs for their families. Edion is a large electronics
retailer where you can purchase not only home appliances but also stationary and TV games. There
are many ramen restaurants on the ninth floor. Each one has a different taste,
so try the one that you like. Where did you go in Kyoto? The
temples, but below the city. Oh, city all over. Okay. And how
about the food? Beef. And we will go to try Kobe now. Ah Kobe beef? Guess. Oh, did you
already buy it? No. Any suggestion to try maybe? Do you have any suggestions? Oh yeah, I can tell
you later. Actually I’m a tour guide. Oh, okay. Kura Sushi. After the interview, when asked, “Is there anywhere you recommend for
a meal?” We pointed to Kura sushi. It is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant that
is about a 5-minute walk from the Glico logo, and offers a uniquely Japanese
experience. After checking in, sit at the table with the barcode written on it. You can take what comes by Or if there is something you want, you can order it from the
tablet and it will be delivered right away. It is quite cheap, about $1 per
plate, but it is very delicious. If you want to buy a lot but can’t fit it all in
your bag, we recommend purchasing a new suitcase. If you walk around the shopping district, you will
find several stores that sell suitcases cheaply. Just a 5-minute walk and you’ll be
able to leisurely look around Uniqlo, ABC Mart, and Onitsuka Tiger in less
crowded areas. Enter Namba station, go down to the first basement floor, and
walk straight ahead to find Onitsuka Tiger. Then go down to the second basement floor
to find Unilo and ABC Mart. It’s comfortable because it’s indoors and they’re close to each
other, so I recommend it. That’s it for today. We met some amazing people and got great
shopping tips straight from real travelers. If you found this helpful or just fun to watch,
