A two-minute silence was held in Inverness today as part of events across the country to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day and the end of World War II.
Victory over Japan Day commemorates the anniversary of August 15, 1945 when Japan announced its surrender to the Allied forces.

The surrender came three months after Victory in Europe (VE) Day.
A service of remembrance was held at the Cavell Gardens war memorial at 11.55am, incorporating the national two-minute silence at noon.

Wreaths were laid by, among others,Vice Lord Lieutenant of Inverness, Douglas Young, whose own father was in Burma during the war.

Inverness Provost Glynis Campbell-Sinclair and Vice Lord Lieutenant Susan Swift also laid wreaths and the standard bearer for the Inverness branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS) was Jim Davidson.
A service of thanksgiving will also be held at 7.30pm in Inverness Cathedral and a commemorative service will take place tomorrow at the Nairn and District War Memorial starting at 10.50am.
