【Travel Vlog】女生新潟獨遊|彌彥神社・古民宅咖啡店・慢活散策・燕三条購物|Niigata Solo Travel Part Two|Chloememories #弥彥 #燕三条 #新潟

Good morning! Welcome back to my solo trip in Niigata. This morning I asked the hotel to change rooms, so I was a bit pressed for time. I had to grab breakfast at the station bakery. You can rewatch my Niigata hotel room tour via the link in the top right. I chose the most popular No.1 cheese curry bread. Hmm, the crust is a bit thick and the filling is scant—could skip it =3= The yogurt drink I introduced in the last vlog. Tart and sweet—really nice! Today’s first destination: Yahiko. Take the JR Echigo Line to Yoshida Station, then transfer to the Yahiko Line. This time I opted for a local train. Sometimes you should slow down when traveling. Enjoy a slower pace of life. Haha—by the time we neared the terminal, I was the only one left on the train. Yahiko is a hot spring town with natural scenery and a shrine. A great place to feel Japanese culture. Before leaving the station, remember to snap a photo of the timetable. There’s only one train per hour, so plan your time well. Arriving at Yahiko Onsen town. Right beside the station I immediately spotted a foot bath. The foot baths here use 100% water from the Yujinja hot spring source. It’s set up next to the station so travelers waiting for trains can rest. The octagonal bath is filled with water from Yahiko’s Yujinja Hot Spring. Said to beautify the skin and relieve fatigue. Before heading to the shrine, I’m going to a restaurant hidden in a residential area. Spotted pretty little daisies along the way—so lovely! As someone who loves vintage items and dried flowers, I felt a delightful surprise the moment I stepped in. The decor and furniture here are so tasteful! They use fresh ingredients and the menu changes with the seasons. The owner was so kind and immediately offered an English menu when she learned I was a tourist. For the savory dish, I chose the sandwich of the day. The bread is house-made sourdough. Inside, besides ham, it’s packed with grilled vegetables. Let’s first try the grilled veggies on the side. The sweet potato is rich and sweet! You can taste how fresh the other vegetables are. The sandwich is stuffed with house-made ham, cheese, carrots, and other fresh veggies. The bread is crisp on the outside and pleasantly chewy. The ham is seasoned just right. The cheese pairs perfectly with the grilled veggies. So delicious! For coffee, I ordered a LONG BLACK. It’s wonderfully aromatic and bold. For dessert, I got their must-order tiramisu. This tiramisu is definitely an adult flavor! Boozy aroma! Coffee aroma! And flecks of orange peel! The texture is very smooth. I love it!! Strong coffee with tiramisu recharged me for the trip. All finished!! This restaurant excels in both decor and food quality. You can tell the owner has high standards for the food. Highly recommended—come give it a try. Yahiko Shrine is the foremost shrine guarding the Echigo region. In 1912 the original buildings were destroyed by fire. The present shrine was reconstructed about a century ago. Ahead is a red arch bridge called Tamano-hashi. It’s for the gods only; ordinary people may not cross. Tall cedar trees stretch from north to south around the shrine. The 350-meter cedar avenue is designated a natural heritage of Niigata Prefecture. Yahiko Shrine is known as the “Ichinomiya of Echigo.” This shrine is different from typical ones. The worship etiquette is different. “Two bows, four claps, one bow.” It’s said that clapping four times is to show a more devout reverence for the deities. You divine fortune by lifting a stone and feeling its weight. While doing the stone divination, focus on what you wish for. If the stone feels light: your wish will come true. If the stone feels heavy: your wish will not come true. They also keep various rare Japanese chicken breeds here. To protect endangered breeds, a chicken coop was established here in 1958. To this day most of the chickens are well cared for and preserved. It’s become a one-of-a-kind treasure nationwide. Besides the coop, there’s also a deer enclosure. In ancient Japan, deer were regarded as messengers of the gods. The deer at Yahiko Shrine were a gift from Nara. All the deer at Yahiko Shrine are well looked after. Yahiko Shrine gave me a very calm feeling. Perfect for anyone wanting to reset and recharge. Yahiko City is a hot spring haven. I’m going to try a day-use onsen here. Shiki-no-Yado Minoya offers day-use hot springs. Their hot spring facilities are available daily 11:30–15:00. 1,000 yen per adult. I felt the staff’s kindness the moment I stepped into the hotel. Later when I headed back to the station, a staff member worried I might get lost and proactively came up to show me the way. They use water from the Yujinja hot spring source. There are outdoor baths and an open-air bath with a view. The open-air bath is so comfortable. After soaking, you can relax in a massage chair and enjoy the view. On the first floor they sell specialties from Yahiko, Niigata. Region-limited Chiikawa!! Chiikawa is holding Niigata’s specialty, sasa dango. They also sell kitchenware made in Tsubame City. After the day-use onsen I wanted something sweet. This little shop is at the end of the shopping street. They sell coffee, drinks, ice cream, and more. After ordering, you can enjoy your coffee and treats at the window seats. The ice cream is made with Niigata Yukimuro coffee and milk. The texture is very creamy. The coffee flavor is intense. Slightly bitter and not too sweet. The bottom layer is coffee jelly. Its bitterness pairs great with the ice cream on top!! Once again I felt Yahiko’s warm hospitality here. Although there was a bit of a language barrier, the kind elderly proprietress chatted with me using a translation app and even introduced me to different fruits from Yahiko. As I was leaving, she even pressed two candies into my hand. I really love heartfelt little shops like this. Back to the Omotenashi Plaza near the station. If you’re tired from walking, you can rest here. Experience Yahiko Yujinja’s foot bath and hand bath. If you get hungry or thirsty, there are plenty of specialty foods to enjoy here too. Lastly, let’s browse the Direct Sales Center for Agricultural Products. If you like buying local products, don’t miss this shop. You can get all kinds of Niigata-grown produce! Rice, shiitake mushrooms, and more are well worth buying. On the way back to the station we passed a post office. I was lucky to find pop-up postcards that won’t be restocked once sold out. I chose these Niigata- and Yahiko-only designs. Do you collect Japan-exclusive postcards like these? In just a few hours in Yahiko City, I felt more relaxed than ever. I really love this place full of warmth! Taking the 15:10 train to my next destination. About a 30-minute ride to a place I’ve long anticipated. Tsubame-Sanjo!! If you love camping or kitchenware, you must be familiar with Tsubame-Sanjo. Tsubame-Sanjo is known as the capital of metal craftsmanship. Many famous Japanese metalworks and copperware come from here. Tsubame-Sanjo refers to the combined area of Tsubame City and Sanjo City. At the Tsubame-Sanjo Local Industry Promotion Center, besides exhibiting metal products from various local brands, they sell about 10,000 items including tableware, knives, kitchen tools, and pots. Here you can learn about the different Tsubame-Sanjo brands. My beloved UNIFLAME camping gear! The B6-kun every camper knows. These all come from Tsubame-Sanjo. If you want to buy Japan-made knives, kitchen tools, or various tableware, you definitely shouldn’t miss this great place! My haul this time!! I’ll introduce my recommended items when I get the chance!! Back at Tsubame-Sanjo Station, ready to return to downtown Niigata. I bought this mini station-sign keychain at the station convenience store. It takes just 12 minutes on the JR Joetsu Shinkansen to get back to Niigata City. For dinner I’ll return to Niigata to dine at a two-Michelin-star sushi restaurant. If you’re interested, please don’t miss the next Niigata food video. This Yahiko and Tsubame-Sanjo vlog ends here.
