The Shinano River is Japan’s longest river, flowing through Nagano and Niigata prefectures. It brings blessed water to Japan’s largest grain-producing region.
This time, I drove along Niigata Prefectural Route 49, the Ojiya-Tokamachi-Tsunan Line, which runs through the Tokamachi Basin, the midstream of the Shinano River. I previously filmed a portion of the route, but this time I recorded the entire route. Because it took so long, I released it in two parts.
Following on from my previous video, this video covers the section from Tokamachi City to Ojiya City. It runs through tranquil rural scenery.
There are numerous hydroelectric power plants along the Shinano River. JR East’s hydroelectric power plant is located in Tokamachi City, and the electricity generated there powers Tokyo’s trains. Related facilities can be found along this route.
