Hello! I am currently looking to get my second car. I am so into 1990s and early 2000s cars, especially some of the japanese cars (I know american models of japanese cars aren't technically JDM, but JDM is easier to type). Stuff like the Subaru WRX, Toyota Celica, the Miata, the Integra, the Is350. These are all cool cars, however as much as I'd like one, it doesn't exactly fit all of my needs. My father started telling me cons about having some of these older cars, so now I want to see if I can still compromise somewhere in the middle with some of these older stylish cars. So here is a list of some of my needs that I'd like to have in a car model that I could look for:

Known reliability: RX7s are pretty but it takes up 10000 hours of maintenance to have around. I want to have something that I can have, not leave me stranded. I of course understand that any car that is pushing 30 is going to have it's issues and need regular maintenance. After all, prevention is better than waiting for an issue to occur. I want something that will be able to have been used for 100k miles and still be good for another 200k if taken car of correctly

Decent Automatic Transmission: I know that some of these older sports cars have much better manual transmissions than automatic ones. I drove an automatic 1995 Impreza and quite frankly it was horrible. And don't tell me: "jUsT lEaRn tO dRiVe mAnUal! ! !" I already do, but I need this car to be daily, and I have to do a 90 mile trip every month (LA to Riverside) due to some responsibilities. Taking a manual for this long is a pain in the ass and I'd rather not. I'll also be in very trafficy areas, and I don't want a manual transmission for that.

4 Doors and Decent Space: I need to take a full size cello in it's case in this car, so space is very necessary for this car

Style!: I don't care if I can't have an AE86, but I want my car to be something that you look at and think, "That's a car!"

Budget is around 10k without any repairs that I'd have to do to a car, so yea, our budget is a bit limited. For anyone who'll respond, thank you all!

  1. What cons specifically did your father tell you about the Miata, the Integra and the IS350? LOL Genuinely interested in hearing the downside of these cars from a parents perspective… especially since I’m also a parent of a driving aged child and well versed in all three of these cars.
