You’ve heard of Drake versus Kendrick, but have you heard of Basho versus Tawarbo? So, we’re in this place called Natsushima, crossing the famous red bridge onto the island of Fukurajima in 1643. This area was credited as one of Japan’s three most scenic views. So much so that the following haiku was created. Matsushima Ya. Ah, Matsushima. Ya. Matsushima. Ya. Obviously translated, but this basically meant the poet was gobsmacked. The poet being the OG haiku dawn Matsuo Basho. Or so we thought. Though Basho did visit the bay in 1689 on his tour of the north, the haiku in question is an apocryphal line from comic poet named Toawara Bo, meaning boy from Toara, more than 100 years after Basho got put in a split. Just wanted to share this little tidbit of information I saw while researching the proper vlog. So go watch that. But yeah, despite who actually said it, the words ring true. This place is lit.
