Epic Road Trip Through Japan’s Hidden Gems: Nagano & Fukushima

[Music] [Applause] [Music] I had a 4-day weekend off from work and in my mind that meant where is the furthest place I could travel. I have had my eyes on Fukushima for a long time. So naturally, I decided to go there and it was only 10 hours by car. But as per some of my teachers suggestions, I did stay in Ober for a night to see the Hawkai Painting Museum. It’s spring in every other town except my town. [Music] Tokyo’s post. Shinjuku’s crowds embrace as I take my flight across the city. A dragon takes flight. in every corner. Would you believe me if I told you it’s April? Like, it’s spring. It’s well into spring. So, I took about 2 days off of work and then the weekend. So, I have 4 days off and I decided to go to Fukushima because I felt like not many foreigners would go to Fukushima because they’re scared of like the radiation. Not that I’m anywhere near that. I’m in I don’t even know where I am, but I’m in the middle of the prefecture to see this place called Ultients. [Music] A new surprise in Japan. I’m always alive. This place is very similar to shitago in G Prefecture, but there’s less people, which makes it so much nicer. A popular dish in Fukushima is ngi soba. So, we’re going to go find some of that. It’s pretty much a sober, but your spoon is the ngi. So, let’s see how we go. Ni lick leak. It’s going to be hard. Gosh, it’s harder than I thought. This is so hard. [Music] [Applause] [Music] All right, it’s time to leave. My car decided to break down again, but it’s all right because pet shop. [Music] My teachers told me to come to this lake. It’s called Iwanos Lake. [Music] Just me and my car out in the middle of nowhere. Yay. What’s my car breakdown here where I’m literally in the middle of nowhere? From what I can see so far, Fukushima is beautiful and I don’t know why not that many people come here to visit. It’s nice. I was just driving past and I saw this massive statue peering over the whole mountains and whatnot. So, I was like, “All right, we should go check it out.” Honestly, here it looks small, but it’s actually so big. Entrance was 500 yen, but there’s like a hole up there. You can see somewhere maybe in the statue there. There you can walk all the way up to the top there. Included in the price. [Music] It’s just so mesmerizing. Just looking at it is just so mesmerizing. It’s so white. I have a feeling this is the start to many many stairs. But let’s go. [Music] Okay. 40 m. So easy. It’s a bit anticlimactic to be honest. It’s just a window and some thing that you can hang up to pray to. [Music] a mountain of dreams, a pilgrimage to walk. Gardens hidden deep behind bamboo fences tall with spring wind secrets of old Japan in every stone in every scroll beauty forever to hold. From the cherry trees to the rising sun, Japan spirit shines in every town. With every breath, I feel alive. In Japan arms, I thrive. Through Japan, I journey. From ancient shrines to bustling bars. Every step, a new surprise. In Japan, I’m always alive. [Music]

I took a road trip up to Fukushima to see Ouchijuku, a hidden gem, and stopped by other hidden gems along the way in Nagano.
