Boutique Luxury in Nagasaki? Olive Bay Hotel Surprised Us
Oshima Island in the lesserknown Saikai area of Nagasaki was full of surprises, especially Olive Bay, a hidden luxury boutique hotel designed by Japan’s best known architect, Kumakeno. And the food, very impressive, creative dishes made with fresh local ingredients, many cooked right before our eyes. Elegant and delicious. We couldn’t get enough. And there’s lots to see and do nearby like the Nanatsugutama limestone caves. Next, the Hario transmission station, three6 meter concrete towers from which the Pearl Harbor attack signal was transmitted. And another hidden gem, the Sound Shower Museum, packed with vintage audio gear, vinyl records, and real listening rooms. Unreal. We only scratched the surface. Just 2 hours from Fukuoka, we’re already planning our next visit.
Just two hours from Fukuoka, we discovered Olive Bay Hotel—an independent boutique hotel designed by Japan’s most famous architect, Kengo Kuma. 長崎の西端で贅沢な隠れ家ステイ – 隈研吾設計オリーブベイホテル
Quiet, refined, and surrounded by nature, it was originally built to host shipowners and now offers exceptional food, thoughtful design, and access to some truly unique sights in the Saikai area of Nagasaki.
In this short, we take you to the hotel, the Nanatsugama Limestone Caves, the historic Hario Transmission Station, and the one-of-a-kind Sound Shower Museum.
We’re already planning our next visit!!
