KYOTO — A dining terrace over a river at a restaurant here collapsed Aug. 12, causing six people to fall into the stream.
According to the Kyoto City Fire Department, the terrace at a restaurant near Kifune Shrine in Kyoto’s Sakyo Ward collapsed shortly after 11 a.m.
Five individuals managed to climb back to shore on their own, but a customer in her 70s and an employee in his 40s who was involved in rescue efforts were transported to a hospital by emergency services. Both were reportedly conscious at the time of transportation.
The river was apparently swollen due to rain at the time. Authorities, including the fire department, are investigating the situation.
