The Snow Monkey Park, officially called Jigokudani Yaen-Koen, is a unique and enchanting destination in Nagano, Japan. It’s famous for its wild Japanese macaques (a.k.a. snow monkeys) that come down from the mountains to bathe in the park’s natural hot springs, especially during the colder months.

Visiting the park feels like stepping into a wildlife documentary. You can watch these adorable monkeys soaking in steaming pools, grooming each other, or playfully frolicking in the snow. It’s especially magical when the area is blanketed in snow, creating postcard-perfect scenery.

The park is accessible via a scenic forest trail (about a 25–40 minute walk), so be sure to wear comfortable shoes, especially in winter when paths can be slippery.
