Visiting Japan’s HELL VALLEY in Hokkaido’s spa town, Noboribetsu
We stood on the edge of the underworld in Hokkaido, Japan. This is Jigo Kudani, also known as Hell Valley, near the Notorieten. Between the volcanic gas vents, sofurous streams, and Japan’s heat and humidity in the summer, you’ll understand the namesake of this place. The views were unforgettable, though. Along the boardwalk, you can get closer to the vents. There’s a steep 1 km hike to check out the ou numa pond which was on the way to river oua natural foot bath. Protecting the streams and natural baths are the demon gods located in several locations around town. There’s a cute strip filled with shops, restaurants, and mini marts. We ate one of the best and bounciest dandon and ramen noodles at N Maken, which only operates for 4 hours a day. We had a relaxing two nights in Noori Betsu and we believe staying at a nearby hotel is the best way to experience Hokkaido’s most famous spa town. We stayed at Daichi Takio Hotel which was right next to Hell Valley and the town. We saved money by booking with planning.
