6 days in hokkaido
Game time: how many of these products do you see in this video? Grabbing breakfast before our road trip today! I was hoping to try to butadon (grilled pork on rice) But the morning menu only has udon A simple breakfast! Always on a hunt for morning coffee shops The staff are very friendly! On one side there is a library of books “Coffee Life in Japan” This would be a great place to work for students and digital nomads Secured the coffee! Now we’re ready to leave Sapporo! Today we’re going to Noboribetsu It’s a small resort town famous for natural hot springs We’re here to enjoy one of nature’s (free) gifts My cousin recommended this place to experience an all-natural foot bath We made it! About a 5 minute walk from the parking lot! The rivers of Oyunama flow downstream creating this nook perfect for a foot bath There is a mild smell of sulphur and the water is a milky white Remember to bring a small towel and a plastic bag to sit on if it’s rainy The water is lukewarm but it’s free so I can’t complain! Taking photos right before I dropped my pants into the water ๐ Victor and I decided to go upstream to see where the path takes us The pond that feeds into the natural foot bath Making our way back to the car I’m impressed someone is wearing kitten heels Note: there is a small parking lot next to the foot bath but the space is limited The weather is bad so we’re going to hide in a coffee shop We spot the same girls from the foot bath ๐ One thing that really impresses me about Japan, Is that there are amazing coffee shops in the middle of nowhere A spacious coffee shop filled with books and plants We’re hungry but unfortunately they stopped serving lunch at 2pm ๐ฅฒ Even these kids’ drawings look tasty So we ordered coffee and desserts The hotel is perched beside Lake Poroto And blends in with the woody Hokkaido landscape My parents wanted to stay at a hotel with private onsen so I booked this one Let’s check in! There are various activities around the hotel which we’ll check out later! This is the Western-style Room with Outdoor Bath RA3 Split bathroom with private onsen The private onsen is definitely the highlight of the room We’re also here to celebrate Victor’s birthday! Dinner time! The restaurant is divided into small rooms Our plan includes breakfast and dinner (All meals are served here!) A 10 course kaiseki dinner The bear is an homage to the Ainu people Two boats are filled with small appetizer dishes Scallop, shrimp, crab and salmon Thickening the leftover stock with rice, egg and cheese Ending the evening with their version of panna cotta Time for drinks by the fire A selection of wine, whisky and non-alcoholic drinks You can enjoy Hokkaido drinks and snacks around the fire Doing a quick Lawson run for snacks Cute Hokkaido alcoholic drinks! Watching ‘Next Level Chef’! The theme for today’s challenge is Japanese ramen ๐ For breakfast, I recommend the counter seats It overlooks the forest and lake Have breakfast while enjoying the scenery ๐ง๐ง๐ง Soup is ready! The hot springs is the hotel’s highlight Which are housed in these cone-shaped buildings inspired by the Ainu people This is the outdoor hot spring by the lake At the entrance is the relaxation area which faces the lake The bathrooms are divided by gender (We got permission to film by the hotel so we can show you what it looks like!) The change room where you can leave your clothes And then a quick rinse before entering the onsen The onsen leads out to an open-area Where hot springs meets the lake Once you’re done, there’s everything you need to get ready for the rest of your day And plenty of water to stay hydrated Afterwards you can grab tea and popsicles in the relaxation area Back at the main building, there’s also a lounge area I miss my home cafe ๐ The onsen in our room is always hot and ready to go The window opens for a nice cool breeze to come through Across the lake is a museum about Ainu culture and people Since the hotel has a lot of Ainu design references, we’ll go take a look The Ainu are an indigenous people in Japan Who mostly lived in Hokkaido The museum opened in 2020 to preserve and showcase Ainu culture and history Our hotel is just across the museum and takes a lot of design elements from the Ainu The open air museum includes a kotan (traditional houses) Plus many activities showcasing Ainu music, dance and crafts We’re hungry so going to grab a bite to eat! It’s a shame it’s so foggy these days ๐ House of my dreams A sweets shop in Hokkaido famous for its butter sandwich cookies However the cafe is closed ๐ญ Back-up plan: curry rice Coffee time! To this day, this coffee shop lives rent free in my head Even though the cafe is in a portable building, it’s been designed meticulously This is Victor’s dream cafe There’s no espresso machine: it’s all done manually He only does pour-overs My first time seeing watermelon shaved ice! This coffee jelly has an unusual packaging design (I will buy this) Mystery dessert! Hokkaido travel magazine We’re back at the hotel for the sachet amulet workshop Adding some local herbs which we’ll fold together in the paper The whole workshop is conducted in Japanese but we got by! Today is a special dinner Happy birthday!!! You’re all invited to my birthday party! Our own personal hot pot dish! For dessert, the bear made a special appearance Having breakfast here every day was definitely a highlight! Last soak in our onsen Taste test: Ohayo “Luxurious Fruit Yogurt White Peach” It tastes like regular yogurt ๐ ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ Quickly browsing the souvenir shop after checking out Hoshino x Traveler’s Company notebook Hello, we are back again ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ Looking at this Hokkaido cafe magazine while we wait for coffee We love the music he plays here- it’s very soothing It’s time to say goodbye to the onsen town! (We’re playing the music we heard at Ishibashi cafe ๐) A souvenir and rest stop on the way back to Sapporo Salmon roe sleeping mask anyone? ๐ I may have switched to Team Takenoko ๐ If you watched our last Hokkaido vlog, we’ve checked back in to the same hotel This time we’re staying in a smaller room: the Hollywood Twin I noticed there are slightly less amenities than the Corner room ๐ Nobody asked but the shower is great ๐ Victor is planning to use the onsen tonight and
is making sure he wears the yukata properly ๐ We have some time to kill before dinner! Toilet themed plushies ๐ OMG I FINALLY ROLLED THE OYSTER SAUCE An old mall where the ferris wheel is located The mall consists mostly of secondhand toy shops It’s almost like a mini Nakano Broadway or Akihabara Radio Kaikan We want to have yakiniku for dinner tonight! This restaurant uses high quality Hokkaido beef Plus they offer a “meat cake” for birthday celebrations This is Victor’s kind of birthday cake ๐ It doesn’t cost extra but you do need to reserve ahead of time! The staff help you cook the meat! Calcifer is in the house We ordered a couple of ร la carte items But we have to cook these ourselves ๐ They also have branches in Tokyo! Ice cream is my type of nightcap A “shime parfait” (night parfait) bar for grown-ups Bar setting with only 16 seats The entire cafe is decorated in penguins! This bar is very popular so arrive early One order per person is required The penguin wafer is so cute! Gummies by the Agricultural Cooperative using fruits from 47 prefectures in Japan The selection at this Loft is quite small but it’s a good place to walk after dessert I will buy the peach and strawberry gummies! Planning tomorrow’s route before bed! Today we are heading to Biei to see the lavender fields I packed us a konbini breakfast that we will have on the road! It takes about 2.5 hours to reach Biei from Sapporo Originally we wanted to do the Biei trip yesterday But we’ve been waiting for a sunny day ๐ Here’s today’s itinerary! Oh let’s visit a pitstop! This pitstop sells everything from soft serve ice cream to souvenirs In hindsight we should’ve stayed 1 night in Biei/Furano area But we didn’t want to change hotels again It can be done in one day but it is quite rushed! There’s lavender growing on the side of the road Beautiful anime-style clouds Even though the car ride is long, it’s very picturesque First, we’ll grab a picnic lunch at this farm It’s only 10:44am The cafe opens at 11am But there’s already a line because it’s a beautiful weekend! It’s the first sunny day in a long time so everyone is making the most of it! They only open from Friday to Sunday A cottagecore cafe located on a hill The interiors are rustic and simple Order at the front before taking a seat They bake bread fresh every day Come and enjoy a simple meal of bread and soup! But we don’t recommend the coffee ๐
The food is served in a picnic basket you can bring outside to enjoy There’s a backyard terrace overlooking the wheat fields Someone please replicate this cafe in Canada A cute shop selling corn ice cream at the entrance of Kitchen Hitosaji Across the cafe is an observation deck Microsoft screensaver vibes Rolling hills which change colour with the seasons There are many flower fields you can visit but it’s a little too early right now What a great parking spot! Rolling lavender fields that overlook the Tokachi mountain range Our Japanese friend took us here last time and we were blown away I’m surprised there aren’t many foreign tourists here compared to Farm Tomita Entry to the park is free and you’re allowed to walk between the lavender This is the Bell of Love The blue sky and lavender makes this place a popular wedding photo spot If you are staying overnight in Biei/Furano we also recommend visiting at night There is a night illumination that is just as beautiful in the dark! In the meanwhile… the line to get into Farm Tomita is crazy ๐ฅฒ Last time we came it was rainy so there wasn’t a queue Farm Tomita is one of the most famous flower farms in Nakafurano But you can’t walk into the fields like Hinode A lavender mailbox! It is quite crowded So we’ll stop by a cafe inside the farm Tables that overlook the lavender garden Across the road is the melon farm Locals will also order melon to ship to friends and family I plan to buy a melon at the airport to bring back home Melon o’clock My mom wants to try the famous Hokkaido sweet corn Irodori Field is the most iconic gardens at Farm Tomita A trip to Farm Tomita isn’t complete without lavender ice cream Lavender or melon? The colours of the flowers will pop more in the next few weeks The Furano Biei Norokko Train We overheard some people talking about a poppy field This is Hilltop Field; where you’ll find white, pink and red poppies set in front of a forest It’s time to head back to Sapporo! Famichiki for the ride back to Sapporo Here’s (a lot) of photos from today: My favourite grocery store inside Sapporo station for souvenirs I’ve been wanting to try the Sapporo Agricultural College soft serve Will pick up some rice seasoning Will also try these pickled vegetables Corn flavoured snacks The food hall in Stellar Place is huge While waiting for a table at a restaurant nearby, I spotted this cafe with a very attractive fruit tart display case It is peach season so I bought one to-go A restaurant popular for grilled fish; where you can build your own set My parents are flying back home today A stylish cafe that has 12 shops across Hokkaido Rustic vintage style interiors We will try their morning menu Enjoy watching the trams pass by For breakfast they only serve 2 types of sets: Honestly this felt more like a dessert than a breakfast (I am not used to it) I bought this at Lawson because the packaging is so cute Upon more research, I discovered the cup design was invented in 1979 This holds the cream syrup In 2015, Glico re-released this premium version as a dessert for “grown-ups” I hope they release this as a gashapon in the future ๐ The jelly isn’t the stiff kind and has a dark roast aroma I will wash the cup and keep it as a souvenir: it’s too cute to throw away An underground mall that’s great for hiding from the heat (or snow in the winter!) There are many chain stores you can browse Gacha display box! Krispy Kreme Hokkaido melon exclusive donut Summer theme stuff! Shinkansen chopstick rests The shops aren’t big but it’s convenient Order from the ticket vending machine Miso ramen specialty shop located along the walking street A cafe that takes pride in selecting its cacao beans to create chocolate From the milk to the soy, all the ingredients are from Hokkaido Besides single origin chocolate bars, they have a selection of baked goods to try The recommended chocolate to have with Victor’s Ethiopian coffee Look at what we found ๐ Happy to stumble upon this homeware shop in Sapporo Stellar Place! ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ Off to the airport hotel! For our last night we decided to switch to a hotel closer to the airport Our flight isn’t until 4pm but there’s many things to do at the airport We thought we’d take it easy and enjoy some food and (grocery) shopping! Our hotel is right next to the train station An airport hotel that has its own pillow library ๐ The cheapest hotels have the best view ๐๐ผ We booked the Small Double Room A hotel is good for business travellers I love the amount of storage space Downstairs there’s an impressive lounge and library Free coffee And a reading nook filled with manga and children’s books A famous Hokkaido soup curry chain restaurant The line went by quickly and we were seated in 15 minutes! The charred broccoli is elite Good morning! Breakfast is served at Yayoi Ken: a chain restaurant serving teishoku (set meals) Buy the meal ticket at the hotel reception for ยฅ1,000 each The airport is one station away Please visit the domestic terminal at the New Chitose Airport We just arrived at the airport! We have around 6 hours to go We’re gonna go shopping B ut we’re going to keep our baggage here at this temporary storage locker Even our biggest suitcase is considered a medium size! This is a store directory dedicated to all the soft serve ice creams
you can get at the airport! Hokkaido has set the bar for airport experiences If you missed a shop or restaurant during your stay in Hokkaido, Chances are you can find it at the domestic terminal! On the 3rd floor is Smile Road You can find Hello Kitty, Doraemon and Royce Chocolate World Both kids and adults can watch chocolate being crafted But my favourite area is 2F that’s like a supermarket with many small shops Can you believe this is the airport and not a grocery store?! This is just butter from Hokkaido! Frozen crab There’s also standing sushi restaurants Made-to-order onigiri Everything feels very luxurious So many cute Hokkaido-themed trinkets Last time I picked up a LeTao cheesecake here Let’s head to Gourmet World! Gourmet World is located on 3F From soup curry to sushi, get your Hokkaido fix before getting on the plane What is everyone lining up for? This is Hokkaido Ramen Street There are about 10 ramen shops But it’s a little too crowded for us A retro theme food court with cobblestone streets, a “streetcar” and old-fashioned lamps Lunch at the airport! We just discovered a Morihiko at the airport It feels very upscale for an airport cafe I actually wanted to eat their ice cream but it’s only available for takeaway There are many people just relaxing and having ice cream at the airport ๐ A small museum highlighting Japanese airlines Cute wooden ANA and JAL airport toys You can also watch the planes from here I finally found the latest edition of Tokyo Banana! I can’t believe my luck! There’s also a casual food court here Kids can also participate in a stamp rally within the airport to win a prize And on the top floor is Oasis Park There’s a cinema, onsen and amusement park Then we have the Sapporo Agricultural College biscuit and soft cream You can get Farm Tomita stuff here! There are various craft shops selling Otaru glass and lavender souvenirs I’m going to buy some melon and crab to bring back We need to head to the international terminal! In comparison, the food court in the International Departures terminal is pretty sad
I want my summer to look like a Windows XP wallpaper

Hello from the roads of Hokkaido ๅๆตท้! ๐ where are you watching from?
May I know which camera you took? Thank you ๐
how do guys have the energy to go on these trips, film, and edit? i just came back from tokyo in the heat and canโt imagine doing the extra work of filming..
First of all….๐๐๐ Happy Birthday Victor!!๐๐๐ You guys did an amazing job on this video. Highly impressed. I'm gonna re- watch it to count the items as I love that! Victor, your birthday looked amazing! I hope you had the best time! I loved seeing you and Sam playing that game on the bed. Was it the hand slap game??
Loved the countryside vibe and the beauty of the farms. Was that Victor's superman pose at the Onsen? ๐ Sam was the prettiest flower I saw in the fields ๐ You're a lucky man Victor — happy birthday!
Another mind blowingly great video๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ!Love you guys!๐
Why was the opening of this video so beautiful T_T
Happy brithday to Victor!
You can happily believe in your luck when you have victor๐
Me and my girlfriend love watching your videos. We can't wait for monday every week! We especially love the Japan vlogs, we hope to visit someday and use your videos as inspiration. Keep up the good stuff! Love from Holland
Perfect as always ๐ฅ Happy birthday dear Victor! ๐๐ฐ
Really love your video and the colors. Can I know the video recording device you used in making the video?
which month of summer was this?
Love , Love , Love your channel. Happy belated birthday wishes to Victor. This vlog , as with all, is so aesthetically pleasing and interesting content . Love the opportunity to accompany you on your adventures – home or further afield. The scenery / landscapes so pretty – saturated with colour. The hotel looked fab for your stay to celebrate Victorโs birthday. And the icecream countโฆ. ๐- girl after my own heart Sam, the soft whip cones were art forms ! Hello to you both, from Jersey, Channel Islands โบ
Thank you Sam and Victor made a Hokkaido video is very very good and beautiful.๐
no more โMonday Bluesโ because of your vlogs, appreciate it much for making our mondays, a day to look forward for๐๐๏ธ
Beautiful video and thanks for taking us on the journey. The vending machines reminds us of "Boxo / Hakkon (ใใใณใณ)" from Jidลhanbaiki ni Umarekawatta Ore wa Meikyลซ o Samayล Anime/Manga!
I wonder if Ghibli animators were inspired by these lavender fields. I felt some heavy Ghibli vibes watching those scenes.
My mom and I are enjoying the more recent music selections and corresponding bumps in cinematography, which make S&V special outliers in this market. These videos qualify as art film sequences. Some of this new music is downright funk swank foolish, yo. โค๏ธ
the highlight of this video is toward the end @ 45:00 with the POV looking downward onto an intersection crosswalk with folks crossing, Sam says, "..Chinese or something?.." referring to the people down below. ๐ซฃ๐๐ ๐ง๐ป
That onsen hotel is such a gem! Respectful of local Ainu culture, beautiful architecture and design, exquisite food. Ticks all the boxes!
Hello from Jakarta, Indonesia, Sam & Vic. really love your videos. I always watch your videos more than once. Just to listen to the songs or just to write down your cafes or restaurants you visited for my next trip to Japan. Take care guys!
Thank you for inviting us to your birthday, victor!! I love that you guys visit less common tourist spots โค
Man you sure eat a lot of FLAN!
hey Sam, can you do more voiceover cuz your voice is really niceeee
Love! Weโve been to all 47 prefectures in japan and Hokkaido was our favorite! We spent 8 days and traveled from east coast to west. Highly recommend Shiretoko for nature lovers. Kitakobushi Hotel, Shiretoko nature center, Shiretoko-Goko lakes field house to walk the green marsh protected by electric fence(brown bear population) or do a paid tour outside of it with a paid tour guide. Then drive beautiful 334hwy to Rausu for a whale watching boat tour and the best Uni of your life at the Michi no eki overlooking the sea. All of Hokkaido was breathtaking but this area was our favorite. Hardly any tourist!
We just booked our trip to Hokkaido next year! This video may have played a part in that decision. ๐คญ
Watching from Indonesia with my hot ramen cause i want to celebrate. Happy birthday to Victor ๐
Makes me want to visit Hokkaido!! Spotted all 5 things in the gacha sleeve. โบ๏ธ

Thanks for this video! Happy Birthday Victor! ๐ Now im considering Hokkaido trip in Summer next year ๐
Ignore this comment as this is a personal msg for someone
I can dance sexily too but there must be someone to follow for steps. And I don't wanna do that if there's a camera without my consent.
Crystal clear visual โค
Hi from Australia. When you guys eat something eg that black jelly with cream can you describe the taste and if you like it or not or would recommend it ?. Please I would love to hear that….love your videos….

Such a great video, watching from Scotland!

Happy Blessed Healthy Birthday ๐ Victor. Hope to visit Hokkaido again soon โคAlways love your vlogs!
