Japanese Broadcaster NHK’s ‘Kamikaze’ Doc Lands Asharq & BBC Deal
BBC and Arabic language free-to-air factual channel Asharq Documentary have acquired NHK documentary “Kamikaze: An Untold History.” The documentary was part of NHK’s annual summer special program, featuring media related to Japan’s postwar history. This program was newly distributed by NHK Enterprises earlier this year, commemorating 80 years after WWII. The air date for the documentary on Asharq has not yet been confirmed. Directed by Takayuki Oshima, the documentary examines Japan’s “kamikaze” attacks (suicide missions by aircrafts laden with bombs) on the Pacific front towards the end of WWII. NHK’s doc features research coming from 15 years of interviews with both US and Japanese former military personnel as well as experts, alongside archival footage and documents.
