Welcome to this week’s installment of The Beat‘s Comics Crowdfunding Round-Up! Let’s look at what happens when deep stories meet sci-fi fun!
TOKYO GHOST 10th Anniversary Artist Proof HC
Creators: Giant Generator
Goal: $10,000
End Date: September 4, 2025
Goodies: Get the digital copy for $40, the artist proof standard for $120, and the deluxe edition for $300.
Rick Remender and Sean Murphy‘s bestselling sci-fi series is presented oversized in its original black and white glory.
Remender and Murphy joined forces to release Tokyo Ghost, a sci-fi epic, back in 2015. It became a fan favorite and a love letter to some of our time’s best cyberpunk/sci-fi stories. So, it is no surprise that 10 years later, the creative duo has combined forces once again to release a 10th anniversary artist proof hardcover edition of their classic work. Knowing this, it’s not hard to see why the project has amassed over $40,000 with more than 20 days left to go on the campaign.
Tokyo Ghost is a story that stands on the shoulders of past giants, but uplifts the genre altogether. With Remnders’ phenomenal storytelling and Murphy’s beautiful visuals, this project is perfect for any art lover, even before their love of comics. Please check this project out; you will not regret this.

Limited Palette Duo: Testament & Faster Reprint
Creators: Bulgilhan Press
Goal: $18,000
End Date: August 27, 2025
Goodies: Get Faster for $20, Testment for $21, personal touches on your books for $40, or, at higher tiers, the small retailer bundles for $53, and much more!
We’re back with two spectacular limited palette books: Testament by J. Marshall Smith and the reprint of Faster by Jesse Lonergan!
Bulgilhan Press is a small comics publisher based in Massachusetts. Admittedly, I was surprised to see their newest project making waves on Kickstarter, but now it’s easy to understand why. The campaign has already raised over $10,000, with 20 days still to go. This time around, the publisher’s Kickstarter campaign features two reprints: Testament and Faster. At first glance, these might seem like straightforward re-releases, but once you dig in, it becomes clear what makes them stand out.
Testament follows Sister Judith, a member of the Order of the Abundant Grace of the Cosmic Christ, as she joins her order on a one-way voyage to a planet capable of sustaining life. The twist? They’ve chosen not to repopulate. Her only companion is Testament, a caretaker android filled with millennia of religious texts. The story feels like a spiritual cousin to Noah’s Ark, focusing on the final days of human civilization and Judith’s journey of faith, isolated and introspective, with only an android capable of understanding theology by her side. It’s haunting, thoughtful, and deeply human.
Then there’s Faster, a story that immediately reminded me of how I felt watching Redline. And readers, that’s the highest compliment I can give. It’s absolutely stunning, capturing the thrill of racing and the lives that unfold beyond the track. It draws you in with dynamic visuals with complete silence; that sensation of speed and momentum is hard to sell to others, and they do it tactilely. I love when indie creators take big swings like this. Bulgilhan Press is proving they’re more than worth watching.

The Scorpion and the Queen #1 – A Sapphic Romance/Adventure
Creators: Wells Thompson (Creator/Writer), Sarah Barra (Artist), Kielamel “Kiela” Siba (letterer), Christa Harader (Editor), Brenda Snellby (Graphic Designer), Klarissa Delos Angeles-Du (Variant Cover Artist), and Valentine M. Smith (Variant Cover Artist)
Goal: $10,000
End Date: August 6, 2025
Goodies: Get the digital copy for $8, the physical for $12, the variant cover for $25, or, at higher tiers, the holofoil cover for $40, and much more!
Triumphant swashbuckling lovers run from royalty and a mysterious assassin in this 24-page comic! Sequel to The Catskin and the Rose.
The Scorpion and the Queen is a 24-page romance/adventure comic that focuses on fighting for a place in the world, protecting all that you love, and rejecting the roles that society has placed on you. The message is profound, and it’s no surprise considering it is intended to be a sapphic sequel mini series following The Catskin and the Rose. The project is described as “Princess Bride meets Revolutionary Girl Utena,” and that was more than enough to get me engrossed in this project. It feels like a Saturday morning cartoon with a profound message, and teaches the ability to confront the harder lessons in life. I can’t get enough of this project, and I hope you take the chance to check it out. You won’t regret it.

OneNation ARC 1 Omnibus
Creators: 133art Publishing
Goal: $5,000
End Date: September 4, 2025

A Bold, Genre-Bending Superhero Epic
OneNation by 133art is a superhero series that stands out for its fearless, global storytelling. Set across cities like New Orleans, Bangkok, and the savannas of Kenya, it introduces the Keramats, superhumans whose existence brings hope and consequence. What makes OneNation worth checking out is its bold mix of political intrigue, moral depth, and explosive worldbuilding. It redefines what superhero stories can be by pushing boundaries and challenging expectations. Created by a collective of visionary indie creators, this is a series made with purpose, and if you’re a fan of X-Men, Black Panther, or Invincible, this might just be up your alley.

Unsounded: Books One and Two
Creators: Ashley Cope (Writer/Artist)
Goal: $669
End Date: July 25, 2025
Goodies: Get the digital copy for $15, the physical copy for $30, books one and two for $60, or, at higher tiers, the physical book bundle for $180, and much more!
A 100-page Step-by-Step Blueprint for Kickstarting your comic!
Cope is a lover of Herman Melville and the muppets, and combine that with being a professional digital illustrator, writer, and comic artist, and you get a story like Unsounded. It’s not hard to see the inspiration behind the story, and due to Cope’s love and work, it’s easy to see why the series has been doing so well on WEBTOON and has already achieved double its required goal, meaning that more than $80,000 have been given to this Kickstarter project with more than 20 days still left to go.
One thing’s for sure, you will want to get your copy. The story follows Sette Frummagem, the daughter of the lord of thieves, as her rotting corpse babysitter makes sure she stays alive and out of trouble, but then again, for someone like Sette, that may be too much to ask. Check this project out, it’s perfect for fans of high fantasy, but even your local muppets lover!
