Japan Travel#54 Driving Journey to Yamagata prefecture

Hello everyone. Thank you for watching Tommo’s diary. It’s a beautiful season for hydronas. This time we are going on a trip of about 800 kilometer in total heading from Yonawa city to Shai Yamagata Prefecture and then around Sami City Nigata Prefecture. We left home in the evening so the sun is about to set. We are going to sleep in our trailer at the Yunava roadside station today. This roadside station is located just off the Yunzawa interchange on the Tohok Expressway and easy to bring in camping trailers. [Music] [Music] The souvenir corner, restaurants, and food court were opened until 6:00 p.m., but 711 was open from 7 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. It’s very convenient. The indoor toilets, information corner, and rest area are open 24 hours a day and are fully airond conditioned and heated. The toilets were also clean. [Music] Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. [Music] Before going to bed, we went to take a hotring bath at a place located a 7 minutes drive from the Yunza roadside station. [Music] Today we are going through Yamagata, Tendoi, Wanai, Shinji, Toawa village and then into Sha. [Music] We entered Yamagata City. On the right was a building called Kasumikaoka Central, a landmark of Yamagata City. And in front of us was the former prefectural office called Bunoka. [Music] Bushokan was built in 1916 as a brick building in the English Renaissance style and is a nationally designated important cultural property that gives of the atmosphere of Taiisho era. [Music] The ceiling of the central hall is decorated with lacquer and features carvings of Yamagata’s specialty products such as s flowers and cherries. The carpet in the center was also woven in Yamagata. [Music] Benibanamoji is a dye made from safflower, a yamagata specialty. Moami safflower is a luxury item said to be 100 times more valuable than rice and 10 times more valuable than gold and is said to have brought enormous wealth to Yamagata and become the foundation for its economic and cultural development. [Music] If you come to Yamagata City, you must visit to see the history and culture of Yamagata Prefecture in Buoka. [Music] Koteneki, one of the five Yamagata water basins built about 400 years ago, has been developed and has become a tourist spot. Although it is a compact commercial facility, it recreates a street of town houses with a cool and charming atmosphere with below trees swaying in the wind and flowing stream. [Music] We are heading towards Tendo City. Cherry orchas line both sides of the road. [Music] Tendo city is famous for the production of shogi pieces. It started in the late eda period with the tendo order crane encouraged its retainers to make pieces in order to rebuild its finances and it became a full-fledged industry in the mesh period. [Music] [Music] After passing through the Punayama tunnel, we are heading towards Obanazawa city. Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] There is a 360 degree view of the countryside all around. [Music] Sha is one of Japan’s leading rice producting areas. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat up [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] here. [Applause] [Music] This is my recommended campsite where you can see a beautiful sunset when the weather is good. [Music] [Applause] [Music] We are passing through Sakati and heading towards the foot of Mount Chokai. [Music] Yeah. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] This hot spring resort established over 90 years ago. This resort is located in a valley and surrounded by greenery. The building is truly cleaned and has a quaint Japanese atmosphere. The old items were also carefully stored and exhibited. [Music] The house shrine enshrines the dragon god, the god of borders. [Music] No worry. It is a pleasant drive along National Route 7 where you can enjoy the sparkling ocean. But today it’s raining. The scenery is very foggy and mysterious. [Music] [Music] We climbed over 200 steep steps to get the shrine. [Music] It was a 3-day trip where we enjoyed Yamagata’s rich history, nature, amazing scenery, and delicious food. [Music] Thank you for watching. See you soon. [Music]

We traveled from Yonezawa to Shonai in Yamagata prefecture with our camping trailer [Emerald 406]. I hope you enjoy the video.
