Day 15 in Japan was spent in Hiroshima! πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅πŸŽπŸ¦Œ #japan #hiroshima #miyajima

Hi, my name is Catherine and today is day 15 of my 3-week trip in Japan and we are in Hiroshima. This is the Hiroshima Peace Memorial which is the only structure that was left standing in the area where the first atomic bomb exploded on August 6th, 1945. And through the efforts of many people, it has been preserved to the same state as it was immediately after the bombing. We also ended up going to the museum. And I feel like learning about the history of the atomic bombing in this city is a must when visiting. Afterwards, we took the ferry across from the city to Mayaima Island. It was very short, maybe like 10 minutes. And you arrive at this beautiful island here. That’s one of my favorites. We have made it to Miaima, if I’m saying that right, island, which is a 10-minute ferry from Hiroshima. So, we started the day at the museum, which about the atomic bombing, which is really sad, but important to know. And now we’re at the island. I’ve actually been here once before, but today it’s quite gloomy, but humid at the same time. Um, it’s supposed to rain, but it’s like sprinkling. So, from Seattle, it’s like no big deal. So, this island has deer, which is just so fun to me. They’re so used to people because everyone is so kind to these deer, and they know people means food. We didn’t feed them anything, but I just love animals and seeing the deer is truly the highlight of this island for me. I feel like in the US, deer are so timid. They run away from us. I’m never around them. Just the fact that they’re so close by and I get to pet them. It’s just so fun. We also walked around and saw beautiful buildings here and the architecture is just gorgeous. I went up and did a little hike as well and saw these statues with like the little hats. Very interesting. It just really felt so peaceful and serene and the beautiful mix of the calm and beautiful serene nature along with just beautiful Japanese architecture. I loved it. Afterwards, we took the ferry back to the city and then we had okonomiyaki for dinner which was a group activity that was included as part of my EF Ultimate break trip and it was really nice to be able to watch them with all the different layers that this dish entails created piece by piece. I will be honest, I like it, but it’s not my favorite Japanese food. It’s kind of lower on the tier for me, but I love Japanese food, so it was still really good. Just not my favorite, but a very fun experience. And given that it’s the dish of Hiroshima, if you haven’t had it, I think it’s definitely worth the try. And that was day 15.
