Tsunami advisories lifted across Japan day after quake

All tsunami advisories issued along the Pacific coast from Hokkaido to Okinawa were lifted at 4:30 p.m. on July 31, a day after a massive earthquake struck off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

Following the quake, tsunami warnings were issued for 13 prefectures from Hokkaido to Wakayama, while advisories covered areas including Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa.

According to the agency, tsunami waves of up to 1.3 meters in height were observed at 22 prefectures from Hokkaido to Okinawa.

The earthquake occurred at around 8:25 a.m. on July 30, with the epicenter about 1,500 kilometers northeast of Nemuro, Hokkaido. The JMA estimated the magnitude at 8.7.
