Ok you guys, for my whole life I’ve always held the chopsticks closer to the blue circle end and pick up the food with the pink circle end.

But then my husband went out to lunch with co-workers recently to a Japanese food place and they were like “bro you’re holding those wrong” and told him that you’re supposed to pick up the food with the blue circle end. He told me about this and I was like ummmmm no?? They wrong lol.

But now he’s got me questioning myself. Reddit, please help me. 😅

  1. LOL, um no. Your husband’s co-workers were either having a laugh, or clueless.

They were probably fucking with him. There would be no point in narrowing the ends if that were the case.

Pick up food from a shared plate using the blue ends. Put this food on your personal plate/bowl.

Use pink ends to pick up food from your personal plate/bowl and into your mouth.

There is no world where primarily picking up food from the blue side makes sense. Only thing that makes sense for using the blue side is to pick up from a communal dish or to pass food to someone else’s dish

If it was a communal area of food, perhaps they were telling him to use the other end, as is customary for shared food items? Otherwise, the pink end is for food

No it’s true that you’re supposed to pick up communal food with the blue side. It’s rude to use your personal used chopstick side -the pink side. When you eat from your own dish, use the pink side. When you pick up food from a communal dish with strangers /coworkers/ people that you aren’t superrrr close with, use the blue side

The communal food thing is a myth. With chopsticks, you’re really not supposed to put your lips around them so using the pointy end is no problem.
