Plastic or delicious in Japan?

This was some of the most fun I had in Japan without eating anything. I couldn’t get enough of this fake food shop. It reminded me of so many things I’d already eaten. Here’s how they stacked up. Replica versus reality. Fake sushi versus sushi made right in front of me. Plastic Doriyaki versus one made by a Michelin chef. Sample guoyoza versus one straight out of the pan. Display ramen versus the perfect slurpable bowl. Fake vanilla cone versus the epitome of soft serve. Hyperrealistic yaki soba bun versus one so over stuffed you could hardly see the bun. Giant bolognz versus the most perfect pasta from 7-Eleven. Model strawberries versus the sweetest supermarket varieties. Just look at these. Plastic dango versus ones I grilled myself. Replica oniri versus the ones I waited an hour in line for. Acrylic tempura noodles versus the steaming bowl from a shinjuku alley. A wall of sushi magnets versus a full counter of the day’s freshest catch.
