come with me on a side quest spending 3 days in Sapuro. My brakes have been spongy, so I searched for a mechanic on Google Maps. I cycled to his store, but he was somewhere else. After stalking his social media, I find out he’s at a park 6 p.m. away. Everyone here is very outdoorsy, and I’m clearly the only Gajjun. After checking out every stall while diligently avoiding eye contact, I find a shop and they’re selling antlers for a thousand yen. Then I asked Mr. Mechanic if I could drop by on Monday and he said sure. And yes, this could have been an email, but I like the idea of delivering a message. Plus, I got to immerse in a little slice of local life that I otherwise would never see.
