Mr. Toshinori Naito, Mr. Okabe Yoshinao, Mr. Akhito Kimura, all representing the Hokkaido government, Japan, and Mr. Yamato Kokubun representing Sekisho Corporation, Japan visited University of Hyderabad on 7 August 2025. Dr. Devesh Nigam, Registrar, UoH, welcomed the guests to the campus.
The visitors came to discuss possible collaborations that could open avenues for the students to be employed in companies located in the Hokkaido prefecture. The Visitors noted during the discussions, among other things, the high quality of students and faculty at UoH appealed and motivated their visit. Mr. Toshinori, who is Senior Director for Foreign Human Resources in the Hokkaido government, in providing the context for the visit expressed the hope that part of the shortfall of human resources they are experiencing, especially of technical skills required by the industries located in Hokkaido prefecture, can be met by graduates of the UoH. Prof. B. J. Rao, Vice-Chancellor, UoH, noted to the delegates the strength of the students’ soft skills as well. He observed Indian students learn multiple languages and adapt to various environments with relative ease. These soft skills complement the hard skills noted by the visitors.
The meeting concluded to hold further discussions to identify modalities of the collaboration. Prof. Chetan Srivastava, Chairman, Placement Guidance and Advisory Bureau, UoH, in coordination with Office for International Affairs (OIA), will advance the discussions going forward.
