Knitting Diary -12- Kyoto Trip / Secede Summer Top / Barbroe Blouse / Knitting Plan

Back home from work going to Kyoto tomorrow, so excited! The weather is hot, so I bought a small portable fan Packing a few WIPs to knit on the way—let’s see if my swatch has dried My next project will be the Barbroe Blouse from Knitting for Olive Snapped pics of the pattern so I can check on the go~ After knitting intensely last weekend, this Seceda Summer Top is nearly finished Fingers crossed I finish it on the trip so I can wear it right away! One project bag… and another one Planning to wear my handknits every day! (Even brought an extra, just in case) Packed some regular tops in case the heat knocks me out… (didn’t wear any tho🤣) Only started the last skein when I got to the ribbing So if I’d made it smaller or shorter, I’d only need three skeins Done! Onto the next one~ Changed trains and headed to Kyoto~ First thing after arriving the hotel: try on my finished top! I like it! Bust is a tiny bit big—probably should’ve made with one needle size down, but it’s okay Changed back, grabbed a smaller bag, and heading out~ A little drizzle, so just wandering around casually Little ducks by the Kamo River~ !!! it’s eating so happily! Just wandered a bit and headed back to the hotel, I started to weave in the ends Spread it flat to dry (it took two days to dry completely…) Time for an intense shopping! I really liked the tea strainer I bought last time, so I came to see if there’s more to buy~ I didn’t take photos in the shop out of shyness, but I got something! This is my third time here—I know my way around now! they have tons of Amirisu—I picked up these this time~ Got tired from walking—time for my favorite ramen! I could eat ramen every day in Japan haha Finished it in no time! Mom’s flying home in a few days, so I’m going to make the most of her sewing skills! Everything is gorgeous—also… the prices are gorgeous too 😅 Got myself a little something! Too hot and tired—back to the hotel for a break 😂 In under 30 minutes, I get my husband for carrying shopping bags and went out again Came to get this row counter that I cannot live without My number of WIPs keep growing, and having only one is totally not enough 😂 amazing! I put on the new shoes I bought the day before yesterday, haha Honestly, I bought them to motivate myself to knit more socks 😂 Other than with sandals, I can’t think of where I’d wear hand-knit socks 😂 Can’t just shop—I should at least do a little sightseeing… Wrapped up sightseeing quickly—time for ramen~ I had my eye on this candle last time but didn’t make the purchase Saw it again—still obsessed—so I bought it! Did another round of very casual sightseeing Happy times fly by… time to go back to work Quick Kyoto shopping haul~ Restocked this because I ran out~ barley tea restock Coffee beans are a must! My new sofa has finally arrived—so excited! I also received some new yarn! So beautiful, but really hard to buy 😭 Picked up cheesecake at the airport 😍 No idea why I knitted for so long and never tried it on! I was just fully trusting the pattern… trusting the process But it’s HUGE… I could cry Ugh, so mad at myself! Let’s look at some pretty yarn to heal my broken heart This is the leftover dark gray cashmere from my Braidy Loop Sweater Planning to pair these for the Pressed Flowers Shawl by Amy Christoffers buying the pattern! Swatching to see how the combination looks! So pretty! The next morning I still didn’t give up and tried to see if it could be saved 😭 Okay, no hope Maybe I can turn it into a wrap skirt over jeans… Still very sad 😭 I won’t frog it—maybe I’ll repurpose it later. Bought another skein and will start over… I’ll need to reduce at least 4 pattern repeats The swatch for Pressed Flowers is blocked; it looks really beautiful To ease my sadness, I can only think more on knitting plans of other beautiful projects Planning to mix my leftover yarns to make a fall/winter sweater They are the gray and dark purple UPW Sublime left from these two projects Plus the dark blue mohair left from my Cloud Blouse Or the purple silk mohair in my stash Holding three strands of UPW sublime with one mohair—the top is with purple, and bottom is with blue I think I like the bottom half more but I don’t have enough of this mohair left I previously gave some to my mom; I’ll ask if she has any left fort the pattern, I’ve got my eye on the Stone Sweater Or maybe Sweater No.23. I already own this pattern—probably will knit it and change the ribbing to double rib 🤔 start again! Knitting taught me: accept failure, start again—it’s no big deal! Enjoy the process and embrace the result but a more important lesson: read the comments and notes on Ravelry before starting! A week later… work was so busy I barely touched my yarn. Finally the weekend to go back to my hometown to visit my family Knitting like crazy on the train home everytime I am home, there are always a feast—I could cry happy tears Gave mom an important mission, haha Planning to make this into a long rectangular cushion My mom’s treasured Serger Meanwhile, I just knitted on the side It’s like magic, so amazing! The only thing I could help with was filling the cotton… Very happy with it! making this into two small fabric bags as project bags Threading the drawstrings is what I can do! Clever use of tools (chopsticks) Looks nice~ At my aunt’s house for lunch, my uncle makes the best crawfish I love mahjong—probably only yarn can pull me away from the table… Of course, I still involved by giving guidance (commands) to my husband, haha. Two days flew by in a blink 😭 Making good progress~ Returned to Shanghai and went on a business trip immediately, totally forgot to film a progress update Let me show it briefly in the hotel room The size is perfect now—probably need to knit about this much more for the body. Really wanted to finish it in this episode, but I’ll be on a long vacation soon and work is very busy…. Guess I will finish in the next episode—thanks for watching till the end, bye~

Welcome back to my Knitting Diary!

I recently visited Kyoto again for a short 4-days trip, and of course I visited Walnut Kyoto for some beautiful yarn. summer tops throughout the trip—and I can’t believe how many summer knits I’ve made this year compared to last year!

In this vlog, you’ll see me:
– finished my Seceda Summer Top and wore it on my last day in Kyoto
– Casted on my Barbroe Blouse (sleeveless version)
– A bit of yarn shopping & a small Kyoto haul
– Project bag and cushion sewing by my mom
– Knitting lessons learned: read Raverly comments and notes before casting on!!! AND accept failure, restart, and enjoy the process
– Next Knitting Plan: Pressed Flowers Shawl and Sweater No. 23

Thanks for watching, and happy knitting always! 🧶✨

✨ Seceda Summer Top by Suuko Knit (Size 1)
– Yarn: Sandnes Garn Line (6061), used a little over 3 skeins

✨ Barbroe Blouse
– Read Ravelry comments and notes before starting! The gauge was way off for me—even size 1 was too big. I reduced the pattern repeats by 2, which seems to fit better now, though it’s not finished yet—I’ll share more in future videos.
– Yarn: Knitting for Olive Merino (Dusty Violette)

  1. Holy crap! My mom had a sewing machine like that one (with the rocking peddle) when I was a kid!
When I grew up I wanted to get one but went with a modern one because the maintenance on those machine is just too much… And since I just wanted something for hems or simple DIYs, a modern automatic machine was just more plausible.
Anyway, back to enjoying your vid.
Once again, thanks so much for the English subtitles!

  2. When I saw you knitting the barbroe blouse I just knew. I have knitted 3 times the barbroe top for various sizes and every time I had to frog it at least twice, because all were knitted finally in the smallest size..😂

  3. I love ur channel and always feel happy when I see a new one come. It’s so peaceful and it lets me see what life is like on the other side of the world. So lovely!

  4. 我剛剛也發現織完的夏季背心袖口/後背太大,大概率是得拆了。很洩氣,浪費了40多小時。😮😂

  5. As always, I really enjoyed spending time with you while knitting.🤗🤗 Thank you for showing me a bit of Kyoto, too.😀😀 I really like the metal tea strainers.🤗🤗 I'm looking forward to your next vlog. ☺☺

  6. So happy to have discovered your videos today! Can I ask where your dark wooden yarn holder is from?
