A Day in the Life of an ALT in Japan | Teaching on an Island in Karatsu, Saga đŸŒŠđŸ”â›Šī¸

Interact West, a more authentic Japan, the West Company area is one of the largest across Interact. Encompassing 16 prefectures ranging from Hiroshima to Fukuoka. Immerse yourself in the rich cultural landscapes of Japan. A blend of tradition and modernity with its own special highlights that make teaching here a truly rewarding experience. Today, let’s meet one of the Interact West alts, Janil from Barbados. Her school is in Karatu, Saga Prefecture. She gets in her car and drives to work. She teaches on an island off the coast of the city and takes a boat to the island. It’s a short walk to the school, an elementary school for the children living on the island. And here she goes into the school. She teaches her classes and finishes her teaching around 400 p.m. Near the school, there’s a famous shrine that gives good luck when buying lottery tickets. After the shrine staff teach Janal how to pray for good luck, she gives it a try herself. Will the lottery commie hear her prayers and give her good luck on her next lottery ticket? [Music] And it’s time to take the boat back to the mainland. It’s about a 10-minute boat ride. The sea is much calmer now compared to how rough it was in the morning. You can see Karatu Castle on the hilltop coming into the harbor. She drives through town on the way back home. There’s a shopping mall and many kinds of shops in Karatu. That’s the end of a school day. Let’s follow Janal on her day off. A nice drive through the forest to a food truck for the famous Kuratu Burger. A tasty cheeseburger with very salty fries. Next, she drives up a mountain road to the top of Mount Kagamiyama. There’s a small gift shop and cafe. The shop has some typical Japanese souvenirs. The view includes the island that she taught at yesterday. Now, let’s follow Janal up to a local shrine. Over 2,800 alts like Janal are currently living and working in all parts of Japan. They enjoy a lifestyle as an ALT that is comfortable, rewarding, and culturally enriching. Being an ALT is a life-changing experience.
