Singaporeans could be jetting off to Japan in style – and for free – thanks to a new campaign from the Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) Singapore Office.
Running from 7 August to 3 September 2025, the “Beyond the Cities, Into the Heart of Japan” campaign aims to inspire travellers to skip the usual Tokyo–Kyoto–Osaka itinerary and instead discover hidden gems across Japan’s lesser-known regions – think Hokkaido, Chugoku, Chubu and more.
In a bid to drive interest, JNTO is giving away one Business Class return ticket and two Economy Class return tickets to Japan. To enter, participants in Singapore simply need to spot the campaign visuals at selected MRT stations, Downtown Line trains or taxi screens, scan the QR code, and complete a short survey.
“There was a sharp increase of almost 27% in Japan’s out-of-major-cities areas and about 12% in the major city areas in 2024,” noted the JNTO Singapore Office, attributing this to a growing appetite among Singaporean travellers for more local and authentic Japanese experiences.
Entry locations include:
– Dhoby Ghaut MRT (five pillars across NSL, NEL and CCL)
– Serangoon MRT (two walls near the NEL)
– Digital screens in 500 taxis
– Downtown Line train interiors
Each participant is limited to one entry, with winners to be selected via a live draw on JNTO Singapore’s Instagram (@visitjapansg) after the campaign concludes. Terms apply – taxes and surcharges are not included in the prize.
