Japanese Locals Do NOT Want You To Know About This Food Street! #Shorts

Japanese locals do not want you to know about this food street. Usually in the busy and hectic streets of Tokyo, it’s anything but calm. But on this street, it was somewhat serene. And this area alone has over a 100 restaurants that specialize in the same dish. Now, I’m sure you’ve heard of okonomiyaki. Mjayyaki, or manga for short, is a lot more gooer, liquid-like, and made with water, dashi stock, and flour among other ingredients you choose cooked over a grill in front of you. And this is not hyperbole. This was the best thing I ate in Japan. First round, we got the pork, Chinese chibives, and egg to start. And for 1,600 yen, that was around $11 USD. We had to get another one. This time, their most popular spicy poll row and mochi topped off with cheese. The way the employees cook it in front of you is just so hypnotic in a way. You’re caught in a trance, and you’re just mesmerized by the cooking process and the smell and the sounds. After they finish cooking it, you scrape it off with your mini spatula to eat. The best is when it crisps up and gets a crunchy texture. At the end, they even spray you down so you don’t stink. Korean barbecue and hot pot places back home. Take note. Now, you could definitely tell this place was the spot. It just opened at 11:00 a.m. and it was packed already on a weekday. We were the only tourists in the restaurant, and they spoke very little to no English, but did their best to describe everything. And we never would have found out about this place if it wasn’t for Leah’s mom, who grew up in Tokyo, and it was the best meal I had on my Japan trip. I’m sure the people here in restaurants would love more visitors to come and try mjayyaki. They even have descriptions of what manga is and how to eat it in English on the street. So if you do come to visit as a tourist, just be respectful.

  1. There's definitely places in Japan that are for locals only, this street was the least touristy areas I've seen (we were the only tourists at the packed restaurant and they spoke very little to no english as well) and this dish was the best thing I ate in Japan!
