Kyoto by the sea | Ine Seaside village with Sakura 🌸 3 days 2 nights Funaya stay | Japan vlog
Hi guys! Today we’ll be taking the train to Amanohashidate & Ine. But first, delicious Clam Soup Ramen for breakfast! This small ramen shop is highly rated on Google maps 4.3 🌟 This Clam Soup is really… UMAMI! We can almost taste the freshness of the sea! Grabbing a coffee with a view of Kyoto tower before our train ride. We will be taking JR Hashidate train which goes directly to Amanohashidate. We have the JR Kansai Wide Area Pass that covers our trip. Seat reservation is required for this train journey. The train journey takes 2 hours. Snacks for our train ride! Loads of Sakura to see during our train ride. Lucky! Sakuras, and more Sakuras! So blissful to walk out of a house surrounded by Sakura trees! Love the look of the Kyoto Tango railway trains. We start to see a more rural side of Kyoto as we travel up north. Loving the countryside view of Japan. I still cannot believe that this part of Kyoto is near the sea! Arrived at Amanohashidate train station. We will exchange for our Amanohashidate Ine Sightseeing 2-Day pass from Klook at the Tourist Information Center. The chairlift platform is a 5 min walk from the train station. So excited to head up! Do note the sightseeing pass does not cover the chairlift ticket here. We need to purchase separate tickets to go up Amanohashidate viewland. 1000 yen / adult You can choose the chairlift or the monorail. It’s definitely more exciting to be on the chairlift. Mrs feels like 21 riding the chairlift. 😄 It’s gonna be fun as we go higher! Just nice that the monorail is beside us. The famous Amanohashidate sandbar is in view! A Sakura tree in full bloom overlooks the Amanohashidate view. Amanohashidate roughly translates to “bridge in heaven”. It is said that the sandbar resembles a pathway connecting heaven and earth. This is one of Japan’s three most scenic views! Timely to be here in the amusement park surrounded by Sakura trees in full bloom! So cute. Definitely going to ride the amusement park cycle car! I noticed a few Japanese bending over to look at the sandbar. It is known as “Matanozoki” (looking through your legs upside down) When you do “Matanozoki”, you will see the land and sky upside down. Here we go! Does this view look like a “dragon ascending to the heavens”? There are many other rides in the amusement park. We are so glad to be here in spring! Time to ride the cycle car! It’s 500 yen (Twin seater) for 2 of us cycling together. Cycling up in the air with the Amanohashidate sandbar right beside us. Next up is the highlight! Wait for it! Surrounded and wrapped in soft pastel pinks. Can’t ask for a more perfect cycling adventure! I think we are cycling too fast. 😅 It’s like travelling through a Sakura tunnel! Wow! So beautiful! Soothing background music in the amusement park to accompany us on our cycle car ride. It’s definitely worth riding the cycle car if you are in Amananohashidate. Even more so in Spring! Time to head down via the chairlift. Feels like I am in a Mission Impossible movie 😂 Going down via the chairlift is the prettiest way to view the Amanohashidate sandbar. Just going to enjoy this beautiful chairlift ride. Thankful for the beautiful chairlift ride. Landing! We will be taking the bus to our boathouse stay in Ine. Glad we left our luggage in the Kyoto station locker. We packed light as we realised the local bus to Ine can be quite cramp. Accommodations in Ine can be booked up to 3 months in advance. We chanced upon Funaya Shione after watching youtube videos on Ine (shoutout to TaraLest) It was surprisingly available during the Sakura season! Reservation is by phone call which is inconvenient for foreigners. I messaged Funanaya Shione on Google maps, and they replied! I was asked to make a reservation through Funaya Shione instagram page. Can’t believe we managed to make a reservation this way. We are almost there! Finally after 2 hours of train ride plus 1 hour of bus ride, we are finally here in Ine! This has been one of our dream destinations to visit. Even more special as we wondered what Kyoto Ine will look like during the Sakura season. Welcome to Kyoto by the sea. We alighted at the bus stop “Inewanmeguri Hide” (Ine Bay Boat Tour) The guesthouse staff is waiting for us. Check-in is from 3pm to 4:30pm. So we are going to stay, there. Let’s go! This is originally a boathouse that has been renovated to be a guesthouse. The bathroom is here, complete with washer and fridge. The lower floor is the boat garage in its original charm. We feel so close to the sea and enjoying its peaceful vastness. Hello Seagull! View of our Funaya guesthouse stay. Hello Mrs! Lower floor is the boat garage, upper floor is the living space. In the background is the main Ine town. We will explore there tomorrow. Bathroom is near the entryway on the lower floor. Super clean bathroom though it does feel rather small. I want to show you guys the living space on the second floor. Comes complete with kitchen and appliances. Best part is… the perfectly framed sea view! We can just stare into this scenery all day. Let’s go check out the bedroom. Nice and cosy! The sound of the birds calling wasn’t planned for 😂 Are they talking to me?? 😳 We are going for a short walk just around where we stay. Silence and only birds talking. Where did everybody go? One of the two Yasaka Shrines here with a photo spot of the boathouses. There are about 230 boat houses, called “Funaya” along the coast of Ine. Funayas were originally constructed to lift fishermen’s wooden boats from the sea and protect them from the elements. First floor was used to house a fisherman’s boat, and the second floor was for storing fisherman’s gear. Pleasantly surprised to find 2 Sakura trees here adding to the quiet atmosphere. There are no convenience stores here. but… Thankfully there is a drinks vending machine! “Cafe” 🤭 Yay! Our coffee break! Looks like this is another Funaya guesthouse too. Heading back to our guesthouse. A photo showing whale fishing in Ine during the early Edo period. These photos can be viewed in our guesthouse. Funayas in the Edo period used thatched roofs instead. Back then, fishermen didn’t live in the Funaya. They lived in another building opposite the Funaya. The dinner venues in Ine are fully booked for today. Luckily we bought all these from a convenience store in Amanohashidate before coming here. Our dinner for the night. Good morning from Funaya Shione. Woke up and spent time listening to the sound of the sea. Such a healing experience. Seagulls are cute. There is a reason why they are hanging out here. Because they want yummy prawn crackers given by passengers on board the Ine Boat tour. 😄 Beautiful Sakura petal. We are going to spend a slow day in Ine. We are back here again and it still remains a very peaceful spot. We are going to walk all the way to Ine main town. Mrs wants to take a “let’s spot us” moment. Can you see all the Sakura petals flying? One petal came crashing straight into my camera lens 😅 Ultraman is waiting for his bus? 😂 Hey hello! I believe he is Roger, belonging to the sea taxi captain of “RE:Ine” We are going to order both donut flavors and caffe latte. We can have our donuts and coffee overlooking Ine bay. It looks like a Funaya boathouse converted into a cafe. Matcha Donut, Baked Donut and Caffe Latte It is possible to board a sea taxi (Re:Ine) here. We are just going to chill here and enjoy the calm atmosphere of Ine bay with coffee and donuts. What a beautiful Sakura tree! Our guesthouse staff kindly helped us make a dinner reservation for this restaurant tonight. But first, let’s go check out the Sakura tree behind the restaurant. Absolutely stunning! This grand Sakura tree is about 180 years old. Just in time to witness the Sakura tree’s peak bloom! Behind is a temple inn “Oumi”. It will be lovely to spend a night here. Its beauty left us in quiet contemplation. Thank you for the beautiful blooms. Ine is listed under “the most beautiful villages in Japan” alliance. A popular photo spot at Ine Bay, facing the Funayas. This is the same Sakura tree that we saw behind the restaurant. We’ll be back here again tonight for a magical treat. We are heading to a popular cafe in Ine! Ine Cafe boasts stunning sea views of Ine bay. We are too late for lunch, so there’s only desserts and drinks. All the more reason to order more cakes! 🤭 The fluffy & rich cheesecake is handmade using local eggs. Yum! Gateau chocolate cake. Crème Brûlée (the menu states Pudding) Lucky to get the bay window seats. This is the life! Such a therapeutic spot. 👋 Waving hi to the passengers on the sea taxi 👋 Me: Just staring into space… Highly recommend the Crème Brûlée 🌟 It’s soft & sweet, topped with a bittersweet crunch of caramelised sugar. Feeling just like the lyrics, “I wish I could stop time”. Another popular boathouse turned cafe with beautiful sea views. Mitarashi Dango and Matcha Time for our reservation dinner. Do make dinner reservations, as there are not many dining options available in Ine. This restaurant has a very high Google map rating of 4.8 🌟 Sound of the sizzling wagyu beef makes us hungry. We ordered 2 different dinner set menus. ¥6800 & ¥4800 Party set: Sushi, Sashimi, Tempura, Grilled Wagyu Beef, Kyoto traditional side dishes, Soup with Sake lees, Pickles, Sweets. Japanese set: Grilled Wagyu beef and Kyoto vegetables on ceramic plate, Today’s Sashimi, Today’s fried food, Today’s fish dish, Pickles, Soup, Rice, Sweets. Thankful for such a sumptuous dinner. As the sky darkens, a magical scene unfolds in Ine bay. We are back here again tonight to see the Sakura tree light up. Stunning. The staff are diligently adjusting the lights for the Sakura tree. The light in the darkest hour. With this, we had a good night’s rest. Morning view from our guesthouse. I will be taking the Ine Bay Boat Tour that goes around Ine Bay. Perfect for sightseeing! Ine Bay Boat Tour Dock is just next to our guesthouse. Souvenir store and snacks inside. Using the Amanohashidate Ine sightseeing pass to board. Let’s go! Taking the earliest boat departure at 9 am. I have the whole boat to myself! Filmed yesterday when there were more passengers on the boat. Going on a scenic boat tour around Ine bay. Seagulls and kites will follow the boat for prawn crackers. I forgot to buy prawn crackers today for the Seagulls 😭 They soon lost interest in me. I will just have my quiet time enjoying the scenery. So that’s where the seagulls are! No seagull food, no content for seagulls 😢 That’s the Sakura tree at Kaizoji temple. A closer look at the bonsai looking rocks we saw from our guesthouse. A little shrine sits on one of the rocks. One last look at Funaya Shione guesthouse before checking out. Surprised there’s a store selling steam bun near our guesthouse. One pork steam bun please ☺️ Our Ine trip has come to an end. Checked out and boarding the bus to Amanohashidate Kasamatsu Park. We are going to take the chairlift using the Amanohashidate Ine sightseeing pass. Yay! We have Sakuras on both sides! Sadly the weather wasn’t good. Another viewpoint of the Amanohashidate sandbar. Slowly savoring the 6 minutes of our chairlift ride. Back at Amanohashidate train station to catch our train to Kyoto. Before that, we are going to grab lunch. It is conveniently located opposite Amanohashidate train station. They only do take-out Bento. This place is highly rated on Google maps 4.6 🌟 Their crab meat rice bento is highly raved for its freshness! It’s raining heavily. Making a run to the train station. Lunch… We can already smell the freshness! Best crab meat rice bento we have ever eaten! The JR Kansai-Wide area pass we have been using for the trip. Taking the Kyoto Tango Railway bound for Nishi-Maizuru. It’s a slight detour before we change train back to Kyoto city. Looking forward to experience the train go over the railway bridge. A pity about the heavy rain. It felt like a scene from the Ghibli animation “Spirited Away”. We are thankful to have experienced 2 nights stay in a Funaya. Coming from an urban city, it has been a healing experience staying so close to the sea. It felt like we travelled into a village where time flowed slowly. Our Ine trip, with the timely Sakura blooms, will remain in our memories. We will be travelling to other parts of Japan, flowing along where the Sakura blooms. Stay tuned for our next Japan Spring vlog. Thank you for watching. 😊

We feel so thankful to stay in Funaya Guesthouse Shione. Funaya (boathouses) can be booked up to 3 months in advance so it isn't easy to make reservations. Guesthouses like Funaya Shione can be reserved by making a phone call to them. But it's inconvenient for us, especially since we don't know Japanese.
I was able to contact Funaya Shione via their official Instagram page and made a reservation from there. Really surprised! Funaya Shione staff are very nice and friendly people and it's one of the most wonderful stays we ever had in a traditional boathouse turned guesthouse, with the boat garage retaining its original charm.
Do watch our vlog, like comment and subscribe if you can. Your support means a lot to us and we hope to continue making better content.
Ine is a beautiful town in Kyoto. We would love to visit there someday. Nice video <3
