These New PS1 Toy Capsules Are Worth the Price of a Flight to Tokyo 1

Why book a flight to Tokyo? Sure, the katsu curry is delicious and the historical landmarks are fascinating – but let’s be honest, these new PlayStation gashapons look like the real reason to make the trip.

The miniature PS1 and PS2 game cases double as keyrings, and can be opened with a removable disc and manual inside. Hey, that’s better than most full-price retail releases these days!

Games available include Everybody’s Golf, Ape Escape, and ICO. There’s also a mysterious, ultra-rare game which we’re curious what it could be. It may be worth emptying the whole capsule machine to find out, eh?

A single pull will set you back ¥300 (~$2) so it’s not going to break the bank unless you decide to collect the full set, which may be a fool’s errand.

This is just one of many PlayStation gashapons available in Japan right now, as Sony partnered with Bandai Namco on a bunch of these, including miniature consoles that play each system’s start-up sound and even Ape Escape-themed toys.

So, a flight to Japan may set you back around $1,000. And spending liberally on toy capsules may cost you a further $100. But hanging a miniature copy of Doko Demo Issyo from your house keys? Well, that’s priceless, folks.
