TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taoyuan International Airport and Kumamoto Airport held their first joint cultural tourism promotion event on Sunday since establishing sister ties last year.
“Explore the Fun of Kumamoto” is being held at Taoyuan Airport Terminal 2 until Dec. 14, CNA reported. The event features a Kumamoto tourism zone, interactive AR experiences, and a limited-time photo booth open until Aug 7.
Huang He-ting (黃荷婷), deputy director-general of Taiwan’s Tourism Administration, said the event, which took five months to plan, aims to spotlight Kumamoto’s distinctiveness. Currently, Taoyuan has direct flights to 31 Japanese destinations, and the plan is to promote city-level marketing in locations with direct flights between Taiwan and Japan — starting with Kumamoto Prefecture.
Kumamoto Governor Kimura Kei noted that the prefecture is located in the heart of Japan’s Kyushu Island and is very close to Taiwan. He hoped this geographical advantage could encourage more Taiwanese to visit. With TSMC establishing its first Japanese factory in Kumamoto, Kimura also hoped the friendly ties between Taiwan and Kumamoto could lead to long-term exchanges in economy, tourism, and other areas.
