Unboxing Theatre announces the premiere of its debut production Net Cafe Refugee on 17th August 2025 at Camden People’s Theatre, as part of Camden Fringe Festival 2025.
“I seek solitude, yet I fear its silence.”
In the dimly lit depths of a Tokyo internet café, three strangers quietly live in their small, confined booths. They sleep, shower, and fill their stomachs with free curry, carefully avoiding one another, maintaining a delicate balance—until their fragile harmony is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of a foreign YouTuber. Through his presence, the hidden emotions of the three begin to surface, revealing quiet, tangled lives on the edge of society.
Inspired by real-life interviews conducted by our playwright Yuya Sato in Kabuki-cho, Tokyo, Net Cafe Refugee is a compelling new play that explores the complex lives of individuals seeking refuge from society. The play reflects the fragility of human connection and the quiet resilience of those who try to hold on, portraying the social isolation and emotional complexity of living in modern society.
Net Cafe Refugee opens at Camden People’s Theatre on Sunday, 17th August, as part of the Camden Fringe Festival 2025, with additional performances on Monday, 18th August, and Sunday, 24th August.
Tickets are available here from £16.35 (includes booking fee).
