Shimonoseki Japan Travel Guide | Tsunoshima Bridge, Fugu Sushi, Motonosumi Shrine & Akiyoshido Cave

Welcome to Shomineski, Japan. A hidden gem where dramatic coastline, spiritual shrines, and ancient caves await. Join us as we explore some of the region’s most stunning sites, taste one of the most daring delicacies, and uncover a few surprises along the way. Our first stop is the breathtaking Shunoshima Island Bridge. Stretching nearly 1,780 m, it’s one of the longest toll-free bridges in Japan and definitely one of the most scenic. The bridge connects the mainland to the small island of Sunosima, arching gracefully over the brilliant turquoise water that almost feels tropical. We stopped for fugu or puffer fish for lunch and we had it sushi style, which can be very dangerous if not prepared correctly. But this was very good. I did survive. By the way, Jennifer had chicken. She did not uh eat the fish. [Music] From there, we headed to one of the most photogenic spots in Japan, the Matanasumi Anari Shrine. This shrine is relatively young, established in 1955. One of the traditions here, well, you don’t toss your coin into a box. You try to get it into the donation box perched over the Tory gate. Let’s just say it’s easier said than done. Perched on the cliffs overlooking the Sea of Japan, this shrine is known for its 123 vibrant red Tory gates winding down to the rocky shoreline like a river of red. [Music] [Applause] [Music] This place blends spiritual calm with wild natural beauty, and it’s not crowded, which makes it feel like a real discovery. We entered a day underground in the incredible Akiashido Cave, one of Japan’s largest limestone caverns. [Music] Stretching for over 10 kilometers with about 1 kilometer open to the public, this cave is a cool escape filled with dramatic formations, towering ceilings, and crystalclear pools. Some of the highlights include the 100 plates formation, a series of flat terrace rock pools, and the golden pillar, a column-shaped stelacttite lit from below. [Music] Walking through here feels like stepping through another world. Quiet, mysterious, and ancient. It’s hard to believe a place like this exists beneath the hills of rural Japan. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music] Oh, [Music] love. [Music] [Applause] Oh. Oh. [Music] [Music] [Music] Hey, hey, hey. [Music] [Music] Heat. Hey, Heat. [Music] Okay, we had such a great day. What did you think? I thought it was a pretty amazing day. We did so much. Yeah, we did a lot of stuff as you’ve seen on the video. Um, and we had dinner and we just did the buffet up there. We didn’t want to get dressed up uh to go to the nice restaurants, which which you should do. Uh, wear slacks and some things like that. There’s a little dress code for dinner except in the cafe, the World Cafe. We just wore our shorts and t-shirts. It’s the only casual restaurant on the ship. Yeah. So, we didn’t want to do nothing. We just grabbed something to eat and we decided, hey, let’s go down to the spa. So, that’s why we are in our robes. We were down at the spa, hot tub, sauna, all that kind of stuff. Um, super super night. We actually fell asleep and they had to come in and say we were on the on the hot stone um the stone beds. You you might have seen that through one of our first videos, the stone beds that heat up and uh we both fell asleep. So they had to say I was out. They say 10 minutes, time to get out. Oh my gosh. Anyways, when we go back to our room, we have these things from Japanet. These are Japanese cookies. They made these things specially for us for this trip. Not just us, but other people, I’m sure, too. But but for the Japanese tour. Okay. And then tomorrow, we we have our slip here with all the information about tomorrow, and it’s Matsuyama. Matsuyama, Japan. I believe that’s what it is. It looks really pretty. I’m not sure. It’s a castle. Oh, cast. They said something about castle. Yes, it’s a castle. We’re gonna go see a castle and and I don’t know what else. We just kind of go with it. Um and uh so if you want to see that with us, please subscribe. Uh hit the bell notification to uh be notified when we upload more videos. Uh beautiful, beautiful day.
