[北海道]小樽-美瑛-旭川:運河、白金青池、美瑛神社、日劇《初戀》取景地|Tour with NicoleXs

I’m in Otaru now Otaru is really cold Time for breakfast This trip begins in Hokkaido I landed in Hakodate and started heading north all the way to Asahikawa Saying goodbye to Sapporo Next stop Otaru I always imagined Otaru to be romantic In April Hokkaido is still thawing The air feels cool and damp But today the sky is grey Seeing the Otaru Canal in person Felt a bit underwhelming Maybe the version in my head Was always a little brighter I’m learning to appreciate the imperfect moments They may lack sparkle but they feel more real The narrow space has a nostalgic feel It recreates the streets of early Hokkaido This little boy is Udatsu Kozo Udatsu was a wall design used for fire protection in traditional Japanese houses Only wealthy families could afford it So it became a symbol of prosperity I think Udatsu Kozo represents blessings of peace and good fortune The fun part He changes outfits with the seasons Like a gacha capsule toy You never know which version you’ll see Which outfit did you get? You can go up the lookout tower to see the Otaru Canal from above This is a one-kilometer shopping street With all kinds of shops Especially known for beautiful glass crafts The Miffy and Snoopy shops here Remind me of Kurashiki’s shopping street But it still feels unique Not just another tourist copy Many stores show what the building used to be A bank An old shop They are witnesses of time Discovering these historic buildings feels more interesting Like flipping through an old photo album This is my first time seeing a carp streamer up close I didn’t expect it to be this huge It’s super huge The scale is kind of overwhelming There are many LeTAO shops here It feels like a LeTAO street This dessert brand originated in Otaru LeTAO is just Otaru spelled backwards Famous for their cheesecake I especially recommend the LeTAO main store The exterior keeps its old Western-style look The free rooftop lookout is a highlight Looking out the windows Otaru reveals different perspectives Continuing on to Biei First a brief stop at a rest area What impressed me most the restrooms were surprisingly elegant And this local yogurt I absolutely loved it The closer to Biei the thicker the unmelted snow along the roadside The air grew even colder I was excited to see Shirogane Blue Pond That legendary blue hue It was originally built as a dam to prevent mudslides after Mt. Tokachi erupted Its captivating blue-green color comes from minerals in the water And the bare tree branches standing in the water create an ethereal scene However today It was drizzling The pond appeared muted Plus the chill from the melting snow My impression of the Blue Pond was extremely cold Completely different from the dreamy image I had Perhaps the deepest beauty doesn’t come from perfection but from the bittersweet moments when reality doesn’t go as planned Unmet expectations can also hold their own beauty visited Biei Shrine They say heart shapes are hidden everywhere The more you find the stronger your luck in love I searched with absolute determination Love is probably everywhere Next stop Asahikawa the final destination of this journey Staying at Hotel Wing near Asahikawa Station It feels like a temporary stopover for transfers or flights The space is small everything is minimalist It was raining outside so I went to Aeon Mall across the street for dinner I chose Sendai Gyutan Fukusuke and ordered their premium beef tongue set It wasn’t extraordinary But it satisfied my craving for beef tongue The Nanban Miso on the side left a lasting impression Nanban miso is also called green chili miso It’s made by stir frying green chilies then adding miso It’s spicy and goes perfectly with rice Good morning I heard the breakfast here is incredible Let’s go grab some breakfast The hotel breakfast for a seafood lover like me was a delightful surprise All you can eat seafood bowls felt like Hokkaido’s generous hospitality After breakfast I decided to walk over to Heiwa Dori Shopping Park Rather than a park it’s actually a pedestrian shopping street It was still early so most shops were closed But it didn’t stop me from enjoying the stroll Reached the end of the street Asahikawa Station looked far away This place was featured in the drama First Love Symbolizing the characters’ many twists and turns their misses and reunions Life is a cycle full of hellos and goodbyes Some people walk with us for a while Some leave at the next turn But keep walking and you’ll always arrive where you’re meant to be Time to say goodbye to Hokkaido Leaving isn’t an ending, it’s the beginning of the next chapter. Until we meet again
