【秘境駅×廃線】トンネルを抜けると、そこは“幻の駅跡”。朝活から始まる静寂の廃駅旅「旧田口鉄道 三河大草駅」 — Monkey125で巡る非日常旅

This morning, I’m enjoying coffee at the Kitajima riverside park in Toyohashi. Then I’ll head out to explore the former Mikawa-Okusa Station and the old Kadoya Elementary School. Kitajima Riverside Park is a hidden gem along the Toyokawa River, close to Toyohashi Station. Actually, it’s my first time visiting this place. I recently found out about it and it looked so inviting—I’ve been really looking forward to it. The well-maintained lawn lifts my spirits—absolutely loving the vibe here. There aren’t many cars yet. Let’s park. That shady spot under the tree looks like today’s VIP seat. The balance of green and blue here is just beautiful. The calm water and sunlight filtering through the trees make this place so soothing. Let’s boil some water and kick off a blissful coffee time. I’m pouring the hot water with joy, but… I’ve made a big mistake. I meant to make iced coffee! Quick—ice dive! The iced coffee challenge, round two! Yesterday, I bought some German bread at the Toyohashi roadside station. Let’s make a luxurious sandwich with it. Ahhh… this is true happiness. Thank you for the meal. My Monkey 125 is waiting for me all alone. I should probably give it a name soon. Alright, next stop—Mikawa-Okusa Station! Such a great spot. Definitely coming back. Riding along Route 400, I follow the scenic Toyokawa spillway. The views along the Toyokawa spillway are breathtaking and endless. This road is too narrow for cars, but on a bike, it becomes a road worth riding. From Route 69, I’ll take the Bessho Kaido and head toward the Horai Bridge. There are two main routes into Oku-Mikawa— One via National Route 151, and the other through Route 69 and the Bessho Kaido. I usually go with the latter, the Bessho Kaido route. That’s mostly because it naturally follows from riding along the Toyokawa spillway earlier. Also, it avoids city areas, so it’s less congested and stress-free with fewer traffic lights. The sudden appearance of towns gives rhythm to the otherwise quiet ride. You can clearly see the Shin-Tomei Expressway. Amazing they built something like that. And before I knew it, I’ve arrived at Horai Bridge. This area is famous for its Kawazu cherry blossoms. It’s out of season now, but let’s take a little detour. Go through the dark tunnel and… …it turns into a cherry blossom tunnel—apparently! Now I’m on Route 32 (Nagashino-Toei Line), moving further ahead. Found a remaining bridge pier from the old Taguchi Line—feels like railway nostalgia. Wait, looks like I passed it. Gotta turn around. Turn at the spot where you can see the shrine. Now we’re getting into the mood. Let’s keep going. From here on, I’ll show the uncut footage—just the scenery as it is. Mikawa-Okusa Station opened in 1930, operated by the Taguchi Railway. It was located about 2.6 km from the starting point, Hon-Nagashino Station, opening a year after the line started. In 1956, it merged into Toyohashi Railway, but declining use led to its eventual end. In 1968, the Taguchi Line was discontinued, and with it, this station closed down. Now, only the mossy platform remains—along with a silent tunnel deep in the mountains. This is where Mikawa-Okusa Station once stood. A mystical platform, surrounded by dense forest. In fiscal year 1957, the daily average users were only 29—lowest of all 11 Taguchi Line stations. The empty tracks, enveloped in silence, seem to tell stories of the past. Though hard to leave, it’s time to say goodbye to the old station. But first, a commemorative photo by the tunnel. Pass through the tunnel, and it’s back to the real world. There’s another tunnel on the other side—timeless and preserved. Our final stop: the old Kadoya Elementary School, established in 1872, with its 1925 wooden school building still intact. It even appeared in the NHK drama “Yell” as the main character’s alma mater. Now known as “Midori no Passage,” it hosts events and cafés. Oh no—it’s closed today. It’s only open Monday through Wednesday. A bit disappointing, but I’ll save it for next time. Looking forward to my return as I head back home. I went on a solo touring trip with my Honda Monkey 125 to visit the abandoned Mikawa-Okusa Station, a former stop on the old Taguchi Railway.

My morning coffee at Kitajima Riverside Park in Toyohashi was pure bliss—paired with German bread I picked up at the local roadside station.
And beyond the tunnel awaited a silent, forgotten station… as if time had stopped.
