Pack with Me for 2 Weeks in Okinawa Japan! Family Beach Trip & JUNGLIA 🌴
This is everything we’re packing for a two week summer trip to Okinawa, Japan. As a family of five, we’re looking forward to relaxing at a beach resort and visiting the brand new Junglia Adventure theme park. We’re flying on Jet Star from Singapore directly to Naha Airport on Okinawa. We’ve paid extra to have one checked suitcase weighing up to 30 kg or 66 lb. The regular weight aotment is that each person can bring on board one carry-on weighing up to 7 kg, which is 15.4 lb. Since we’re a family of five, we get five carry-on bags. That’s made up of these two lightweight weekender bags, my backpack, my husband’s backpack, and our July carry-on light suitcase. One carry-on bag we’re bringing is our already packed beach bag. This one is by Canval back when they were called Logan and Lenora. I have been using their bags for many, many years. And it’s going to be our beach bag. It’s all packed and ready to go. That way, as soon as we arrive, we can get to the beach as quickly as possible. There is a lot of rain in the forecast. So, I’ve got a couple umbrellas in these outside pockets. And I’ve got my son’s water bottle. That’s a insulated hydro flask in that pocket. A great thing about this bag is it has a luggage trolley sleeve. So, we will be sliding this on top of one of our suitcases. I’ve already got the luggage tag ready to go. This has a waterproof material inside. So, if we have things like wet swimsuits, I can put it into one of the pockets. Right here, we’ve got one, two, three of our family’s sun hats. Ah, there’s the other two or five. So, a sun hat for everybody. That’s all that I’ve got in the outside pocket. Okay. Now, in here is a lot of swimwear. This is like our extra secondary swimwear in here. And so this I will actually be packing this particular bag into our checked suitcase. In this bag I have items that are more like for the swimming pool. So each of us has a pair of goggles and then my kids also have swim caps which are sometimes required at the swimming pools in Japan. In this plastic bag, each kid has a pair of water shoes. I read that it’s really important to bring water shoes for going into the water in Okinawa because there’s a lot of sharp things you could step on such as sea urchins or sharp coral. This is just a little waterproof wet bag. So, if we do something like kaying and we want to keep things like our phone or wallet dry, we can put them in there and roll it up and it’s waterproof to keep them nice and dry. This is our main swimwear bag. Inside our swimwear bag, we each have one swim outfit that includes either a rash guard plus swim trunks for sun protection on the arms or for instance, my daughter has a long sleeve swimsuit. I have another one of these thirsties wet dry bag. I don’t know if they offer these anymore, but I have them ever since my kids were really little and they’ve been great. In this one, I have two of these really thin pashimal cotton towels that we can use for drying off at the beach. And then also a mesh cotton blanket. That’s good for some extra sun protection at the beach. I’m assuming the hotels will also provide some towels. We also are staying at a vacation rental. We always like to make sure we have enough towels for the beach. At the very bottom there, we’ve got our beach blanket. And this is within the 7 kg weight aotment to be one of our carry-on bags. I slipped my ballet flats into the beach bag right before we left. This is what I refer to as the family carry-on bag. This bag is also a Weekender by Canval. I just bought this one recently. It again has a luggage trolley sleeve. It also has a padded laptop sleeve, but I won’t be using that on this particular trip. There’s no front pocket, but it does have two side pockets. On this side, I have our luggage scale. I always like to weigh our bags before heading to the airport, especially on a lowcost carrier that’s going to be strict about that. We have our luggage tag here. I have some alcohol wipes in case I want to wipe down the armrest or tray tables on the airplane and some tissue packs as well. So, since we’re sharing our bags, each of my three kids are putting our their personal item in here. So, if they do weigh these at the airport, it’s clear that we’re within the limits. They need to each have their sunglasses in there. So, my daughter has one of these Uniqlo purses. My four-year-old son got just a simple bag here. He’s going to be adding his blanket. I’m going to put his sunglasses in there. And then my oldest, who’s 11, has the most. This is pretty heavy. He’s bringing his Nintendo Switch, his phone, the chargers, um some things like Cband since he gets motion sickness. So, that’s taking up a good portion of the weight, but this bag does weigh just about 6 kg total. These are the items I normally pack in our family carry-on bag. In this Canval packing cube, I have a sweater for each of my kids, plus my husband. just mine doesn’t fit, so I’ll just wear mine to the airport. Then we have a variety of snacks. Some gluten-free biscuits, some rice crackers, obey crackers. This is a snack bag by So Young. It’s a little bit insulated, so I figure that this will be good for taking to the beach once we get to Okinawa. And they’ve just got a variety of snacks in here. I always like to pack fisherman’s friends cough drops cuz they’re good for clearing the cyanesses. And then each kid has something like Mentos or gum to chew on the airplane because it helps their ears to pop when there’s pressure changes. We also have some ging candy since that’s good for nausea. Slid into this pocket, I have some face masks in case anybody’s coughing. This has a little clip here. And I need to find an air tag to add onto here. That’s on my to-do list. There’s a zipper pocket back here, but all I have right now is my contact information in case I lost my bag. There’s these two slip pockets and there is a nice big mesh pocket on this side. This is also lined in this nice waterproof washable material. So, this could be used as a beach bag as well. The July carry-on light is one of the lightest weight rolling hard-sided carry-on suitcases there is. It weighs about 2 kg or 4 lb empty. And still, I can’t pack too much in it. The way it’s packed now, it’s just under 7 kg. In this bag, I have my purse that I’ll use when I get there. We have little gifts there. This is our camera cube where we have our actual camera in here. This is just a little too big and heavy to go in my husband’s backpack, so we’re packing it into this carry-on suitcase. And each family member has one pair of sandals packed in a shoe bag. We’ll each wear a pair of tennis shoes onto the airplane. Now for the check suitcase, which weighs a little over 21 kg. Ever since we switched to one of these top loading suitcases, a check suitcase, we really liked it as a smaller footprint, which is great in small hotel rooms in Japan. Right on top here, I have my parasol that’s too long for the carry-on bags. And then we’ve got our packing cubes of clothes. This is the bottom of the suitcase. So I have it with our more delicate items that could get wrinkled up at the top. So when it stands up, it’ll be squishing down this way. These are the outfits that I’m planning to pack for my four-year-old son. Right now, I have six outfits per person, so wearing one on the airplane and packing five. So, he mostly has cotton t-shirts and shorts. He’s a big fan of the Shinkansen bullet trains. And then each family member has at least one nice outfit for family photos. So, for the boys, that’s a button shirt and shorts. Each family member has one pair of long pants. These can be zipped off and converted into shorts. We also each are bringing one long sleeve. for him. He chose a button-down long sleeve shirt that he can layer over a t-shirt. And I have a packing cube with one sweater for each family member. Again, those are to wear on the airplane there. So, we’ve got items to wear on the airplane. One packing cube of shorts and t-shirts. I got these at Daiso. A packing cube with socks and underwear. And then the items that are more likely to wrinkle, I’m going to pack separately. For my 11-year-old son, also six outfits, mostly shorts and t-shirts, a couple marino wool t-shirts, and then cotton. He’s got two button shirts, including one to match with his brother for family photos and a t-shirt and long pants for the airplane. Also, we’re all gonna wear long pants for Jumlia Adventure theme park. His long sleeve shirt that he chose is a Marino wool shirt. And then he’s got a really thin hoodie sweater as well. These are the outfits for my 7-year-old daughter. A t-shirt and cotton shorts. Four dresses. This one’s wool and she has bike shorts to wear under her dresses. This is her one to match with the family. I just realized that I have not ironed these two dresses yet. I still need to do that. And then she’s got a t-shirt and long pants to wear on the airplane. And these pants are actually sun protection pants. So like out at the beach if she’s getting too much sun, she could wear those for UV protection as well. Her long sleeve layer is a marina wool pepleum shirt. And then she also has a marino wool hoodie sweater as her warmth layer. She can wear on the airplane. So same setup as for my other kids. Airplane outfit. One packing cube with outfits. One packing cube with socks and underwear. Some dresses that I’m going to iron and pack separately. One packing cube with just some minimal pajama items for my kids. Most hotels in Japan provide pajamas that they can wear. And so these are more like for when we stay in a vacation rental. I’ve got a marino wool tank top and shorts for my daughter. They each have a tank top that they tie dyed that they can wear as their pajamas. These are my outfits. I have the most clothes and perhaps I’m overpacking. I have my long teal dress, my shorter blue dress. This aqua is a shrug plus tank top. I have my long wool skirt plus t-shirt there. This is a linen set that I got from Island Shop, which is Singaporean brand. It’s a tank top and skirt. And then I have a camisol to wear under. I have this long summery cotton dress to wear for family photos. And I got from Uniqlo a long slip dress to go under with a built-in bra so I can just wear that under their dress since this is pretty thin. And then this outfit is specifically for Jun Leia Adventure theme park. It’s a pair of linen blend pants and a cotton t-shirt because some of the rides at Junglia prohibit wearing a skirt and most of my wardrobe is skirts or dresses. So I needed to make sure to pack pants for Junglia. For my long sleeve, I have a linen button-down shirt, which is almost the same as my husband’s. I can layer that over some of my outfits. And for warmth, such as on the airplane, I have a long marina wool cardigan. I also have some additional layering pieces such as one pair of leggings that I could wear with my blue dress and some bike shorts that I would wear with skirts or dresses. I also have a shorter slip that I could wear under my linen skirt if I need to. These are my husband George’s clothes. He has fewer outfits since he doesn’t mind rewearing. He has four marino wool t-shirts by Unbound and one collared button-down shirt. a cotton pair of shorts, unbound wool shorts, a long pair of cotton pants, and this is a really thin nylon pair that Western Rise sent to him. For his long sleeve, he has a linen button shirt. And for his warmth layer, he has a really thin hoodie by Unbound that he can wear on the airplane or anytime that it’s cooler. I pack a variety of pouches into the check suitcase. This first pouch is by Canval and it’s lined with a waterproof material. In here, I have all of our toothbrushing needs for our family. This is some tooth powder that we use instead of toothpaste, floss, and more toothpowder to refill as needed. And then a variety of toothbrushes, one for each family member. This is a slimline pouch by Bon Maxi, the same company that makes the travel wallet that I use. I really like that this is narrow. It’s not too big. On top, what I have here is just my Muji lint roller with a refiller. And then I have hair brushes for me and the kids. And the smaller pocket has some hair ties for my daughter and myself. In this little sheet pouch, I just have some alcohol wipes for cleaning our nail clippers. And then our nail clippers for the family is in here. Some sharp items. So, I like to put this into the check suitcase. These toiletry pouches are also by Canval and they’re lined with the waterproof material. So, I like to put anything that might get wet or liquids in them. This one has some dishwashing liquid in here for washing my water bottle. Some unscented sunscreen. We’ll be needing that at the beach. Also, aloe vera aloy in case anybody gets sunburnt. Have another solid sunscreen stick here as well as a sunscreen stick that I use on my face. This one’s tinted lip balm with SPF in it. And this is a powder brush on sunscreen that I got in Japan. You can use this to brush it onto your face and then it’s refillable. So, I have a refill pack here. I’m going to fill it up once we get there so it doesn’t spill on the way. Another liquid item. This is cuticle oil to put around my nails. And some hair ties just in case we need them while applying sunscreen. This clay colored one is my personal toiletries bag. I have in here one lip balm, one lipstick, my tiny little antique zero waste deodorant is in there. I have my travel razor plus a couple refills, a little bit of lotion in here. And these items are by the company the powder shampoo. You mix these with water and then they lather up. So, this one is shampoo, this one’s conditioner, and this one is a body wash. I like to have my own toiletries. The rest of the family is usually fine with using whatever the hotel provides. And one more of these. We have an unscented bar of soap that the family shares. My husband’s crystal deodorant, which is good to use when you’re wearing wool shirts. And he’s got just a razor and a little shaving cream from one of the Japanese hotels in there. So, we like to keep it pretty simple and not pack too much. And then if anything’s wet when it needs to go back, it’s perfectly fine to go inside here. This bag will prevent anything in our luggage from getting wet. Now, for some health related items, this is our first aid kit by Keep Going. They make great travel first aid kits for families. I have a separate video showing everything that comes in this originally when you purchase it. I’ve changed it out a bit, but we have things like antibiotic ointment, bandages, burn cream, anti-itch cream, and some other items back here like Neosporin, hydrocortisone for itching, and some little items that I’ve added in over the years. They also make smaller ones that would be good for a day bag. We bring our thermometer as well while traveling with kids. Boflur is a probiotic that’s good to hopefully help prevent getting food poisoning. So, we like to take that on a daily basis while we’re traveling. In this little pouch, I have lots of mosquito repellent stickers, especially during summertime in Japan, the mosquitoes can be really bad. My kids like the stickers. And then we also have this other solid form, which is like a stick that you can rub on. So, that way we don’t need to bring a liquid insect repellent. And some Cetaphil lotion that we actually purchased in Japan. So, sometimes we bring one with us, sometimes we just buy it once we get there. A few other miscellaneous items. This is my cleaning kit. It has one of these sneaker erasers for cleaning my white sneakers, a little sewing kit, some flat lofas that I actually use as dishwashing sponges at vacation rentals if they don’t provide a clean sponge. I really don’t like when they provide a dirty used sponge. And these are some laundry detergent sheets inside another Ziploc bag there for doing laundry at a vacation rental. This little bag I’m going to move into my day bag. It’s where I’m carrying a pair of socks for each family member. We’re going in the summer, so sometimes we will be wearing sandals, but then if we want to go in somewhere, such as a temple, it’s good to have a clean pair of socks to wear so we’re not walking barefoot on wooden or tatami floors. And I just have a couple of little items out here in case anybody gets like a scratch or something. some alcohol wipes, some moles skin, which is really good if you get a blister, and some bandages as well. And these are just trash bags that I’m going to put in my day bag as soon as we get there. These built-in pockets are great for toiletries. I can fit things like our first aid kit, nail clippers, thermometer. I have our liquids, bag of sunscreen, and insect repellent in this waterproof plasticky one. This longer pocket on this side fits our pouch of hair brushes, my husband’s toiletries, and my toiletries. So, this is a nice design. I’ve shared in detail in a couple other videos what I pack in my personal item backpack. This one’s also by Canval. It was gifted to me for an earlier video. So, just real quickly, I have my calendar with pen, my noise cancelling headphones, laptop, important documents, a case for taking off my glasses on the airplane, sunglasses, spare prescription glasses, face masks, slippers to use on the airplane, my Chapato shopping bag, medicine, a fan and water bottle to use once I get there, small hand towel, some additional hygiene items, as well as a little toothbrushing kit there, business cards for Kencho Quest, my chargers, and this is my wallet and cross body purse. I have been using just rubber bands on my cords, but I got these nice little leather pieces from Bandelier. I also bought a new phone case from Bandelier that’s going to allow me to wear my phone around my neck or wear it cross body, and that’s just going to be easier when I want to do photos and video with my phone. Also, I upgraded to a bigger wallet. I’ve shown in other videos this Bond Maxi phone wallet pouch. It’s good if you want to pack all your essentials for one person, including a phone and a passport. But since I carry our whole family of fives passports, I upgraded to the Bond Maxi multi-pocket travel wallet. So on the back, it has a place you could slide your phone, but I’ll be using my phone in my new Bandelier case. There’s also a place for a card right here. This is going to be big enough that I can carry all five of our passports, boarding passes, put my cards and my cash in here as well. And it does not come with a strap. However, there are two D-rings where you can attach your own strap. This is actually the strap from the purse I’m going to use as my day bag in Japan. On the way to the airport, I can wear this cross body. When I get there, I can put in my personal item backpack. So, I have just one item and then once we get to Japan, I’ll move this strap to my purse and this will go into the purse as my wallet. So, that’s everything that goes into my backpack, which will weigh about 6 kg full. Hopefully, this amount of luggage will be manageable since we’ll be staying at a few different places around Okinawa Island. Please stay tuned for an upcoming Okinawa travel guide. Are you dreaming of visiting Okinawa, Japan? We've always wanted to go, and now we finally are! 🌴🌊☔☀
Great video ❤❤ thank you for sharing okinawa Japan ❤
Expecting more Okinawa videos from y'all!
Do keep in mind that Jetstar's scales are consistently overweight by 200-300g so that 7kg carry-on should really be 6.5kg for peace of mind.
I'm sure a lot of airlines do this too, just so they can charge you a few bucks more when they deem your luggage 'too heavy'.
