Hi everyone, I’m Adventurer P. Today, I’m taking you on a fantastic day trip to Nagoya Port. Once we arrive at Nagoya Port, we’ll use our four-facility combined ticket to visit the Antarctic Observation Ship Fuji, the Nagoya Port Tower, and the Maritime Museum. We’ll also visit the Nagoya Aquarium to see Adventure Pig’s favorite killer whales and dolphins! At the end of the video, there’s also a spectacular fireworks display at Nagoya Port. The video is fantastic from beginning to end, and Adventure Pig will also provide transportation instructions, so be sure to watch until the end! Let’s start at Nagoya Station! People say Nagoya Station is as complex as an underground maze city. If this is your first time at Nagoya Station, we recommend using Adventure Pig’s easy and reliable way to find your way around Nagoya Station . First of all, no matter which mode of transportation you take to get to Nagoya Station, Please go to the first floor of Nagoya Station. Although there are many forks in the road , there is a very clear and easy-to-identify large vertical passage. There are a total of five entrances to the station. Remember, the entrances to “Meitetsu, Kintetsu, and Subway” are near “Sakura-dori Exit” on the same side. The Shinkansen entrance is opposite, next to “Taiko-dori Exit.” The JR station is in the middle, so once you reach the first floor, you will be walking along this large vertical passage. The good news is that although Nagoya Station is chaotic , there are always signs for various modes of transportation overhead. We are now heading in the direction of the Shinkansen, which means the locations of Meitetsu, Kintetsu, and Subway are behind us. Do you see the opposite direction? The exit next to the Shinkansen is Taiko-dori Exit. Let’s go in the opposite direction. Now Sakura-dori Exit is directly in front of us. Meitetsu and Kintetsu are located. The subway entrances are all in this area. Today we’re going to take the subway to Nagoya Port. There are two subway lines at Nagoya Station, the Higashiyama Line and the Sakuradori Line. No matter which one you take, just follow the subway entrance signs because the two subway lines are connected underground. In Nagoya, if I take the subway that day, I always buy a 24-hour subway ticket. It only costs 760 yen and is very cost-effective. We first take the Sakuradori Line to Yadaikudori Station to change lines. When we arrived at Yadaikudori Station, the main means of transportation to Nagoya Port is the subway “Meijo Line”. It is important to note that not every train on the Meijo Line can reach Nagoya Port. Don’t take the loop line. Look for trains with “Nagoya Port” marked on the train schedule before taking them. Adventure Pig is at Nagoya Port. I got off at the first two stops and planned to go shopping at LaLaport. Nagoya has a lot of shopping. The advantage of LaLaport is that the shopping mall is spacious and not crowded, making it perfect for families. I did n’t go shopping , but I quickly bought discounted summer clothes and went to Aka’s main shop to buy a lot of baby food for my nephew. The baby food here is really abundant and very affordable. My brother said his son would love it. I also had lunch here before heading to Nagoya Port. Eating alone, I decided to simply try the Shinjuku Katsuhakuden pork cutlet. It was surprisingly delicious , and a set meal was only 1,180 yen. I arrived at Nagoya Port Station a little after noon. As soon as you walk out , you’ll see signs heading to the Antarctic Observation Ship Fuji or the Aquarium. If you need to store your purchases at LaLaport, there’s a luggage storage area inside the North Building of the Aquarium. My first stop was the Antarctic Observation Ship Fuji. Next to the Fuji is the Nagoya Port Tower, so just head in the direction of the Port Tower. There’s a self-service ticket machine nearby. I bought a four-facility pass for 2,440 yen. The aquarium ticket alone is 2,030 yen. Of course, buying the pass is much more cost-effective . Antarctica is the last continent discovered by humans. Since the 1950s, various European and American powers have invested in Antarctic observation and research. Japan also joined the ranks of Antarctic research. The Fuji is the second-generation observation ship. It has been in service since 1965. During its voyages, it has conducted a total of The 18-time nationally-led Antarctic research expedition wasn’t officially retired until 1983. I finally returned the question book to the staff, as it was a bit difficult for someone like me who’s not good at Japanese. The first place you enter is where the Maritime Self-Defense Force and the research team used to eat. The kitchen is right next to it. Have you seen the movie “Antarctic Cook”? I love watching videos of the Japanese Self-Defense Force’s meals (there are many on YouTube). I personally think the Maritime Self-Defense Force’s meals are better than those of the Army and Air Force. In fact, Japan’s Antarctic exploration began as early as 100 years ago in 1912. The Soya, which preceded the Fuji, was the first official national Antarctic observation ship. After the Fuji, there was the first generation Shirase, which had even more advanced equipment, and then the second generation Shirase. The prototype of the Penguin Bun in the anime “Further than the Universe” is the second generation of Shirase. Let’s start by visiting the interior of the cabin. The Antarctic observation mission is long and arduous, so there is a post office on the Fuji, where telegrams can be sent , as well as a store selling alcohol and various daily necessities. There are about 30 non-commissioned officers on the Fuji. Two people share an 8-tatami room with their own single bed, desk and cabinet. Although the layout of each non-commissioned officer’s room is slightly different , the equipment is the same. There is also an onboard hospital, an infirmary, and someone actually had an appendectomy here. There is also a barber shop . Is this ship very thoughtful in all aspects of life? Of course, all the personnel on the ship have their own work to perform every day. This is the general office with documents and various items. Storage is all done here. Compared to the non-commissioned officers’ quarters , while they have their own bathrooms , 10 people share one room. Don’t you think that lacks privacy? Let’s take a look at the non-commissioned officers’ living quarters. Here, 105 people share a living room of approximately 150 square meters. Not to mention the privacy issue, people with sleep disorders would probably find it extremely difficult. I saw something interesting here. A team member named Sanae Tanaka once wrote on the bottom of her bed, “If life has joy, it has more suffering.” It’s easy to imagine what it must have been like sleeping on a large bunk bed in Antarctica, with no entertainment options. To ensure the Fuji could continue its journey even through the Antarctic storm circle, they deliberately omitted bottom stabilizers, which caused the Fuji to rock violently. (Just imagining it makes me vomit) This is the observer’s room. We also visited several different types of rooms. I think everyone has figured it out in their minds. On the ship, except for the captain, the order of status from high to low is NCO > Observer > Non-commissioned Officer > General Team Member. But no matter what your status is on the observation ship, everyone’s schedule is the same. Get up at 6 am and turn off the lights at 10 pm. Here you can also see the “snowmobile” that has appeared in Japanese movies and animations related to Antarctica . This one is the No. 1 vehicle that has been used since the Soya era. Without it, there is no way to transport supplies from the ship to the Showa base. Of course, there are also displays here. People who are interested in Antarctica can learn a lot here . Back on deck, besides being able to see the scenery of Nagoya Port from the sea and the helicopter parked on the deck, don’t just leave the Fuji from here. Finally, we have to go to the bridge to see what the equipment in the cabin of this 70-year-old icebreaker looks like. Although I, an adventure pig, have no idea what these instruments do , I think it is really amazing that 70 years ago, with the technology at that time, they could produce various instruments that can withstand highly corrosive environments and can still operate at -50 degrees Celsius . Our second stop is the Nagoya Port Tower. The 7th floor of this tower is an observation deck and lounge, and the 3rd floor is a museum. Let’s take a look at the scenery on the 7th floor and rest. There are also captain’s clothes and hats here for photos. The third stop is the Maritime Museum. I thought it would be a bit boring, but I didn’t expect there to be so much to see in the museum. There are interactive devices where you can experience being a captain and driving a ship. You can also learn about the development history of Nagoya Port and the port’s operation mode. It ‘s not just Nagoya Port itself, but also the development of ships around the world and the living conditions on board during the Age of Exploration, as well as the diseases and difficulties that the crew had to face. The museum presents these exhibits in a very rich way , and also shows the trade routes of ships in the Age of Exploration. These are authentic valuables from various important trading points at that time. This is an ancient pottery pot that was dug up near the Syrian waters during the Showa period by the Japanese and Syrian survey team. It was sleeping on the seabed. The last stop of today’s day trip is the aquarium adventure pig. The focus is to see the killer whales and dolphins in the north building. The largest killer whale in Japan is here. It is 6 meters long and weighs 3.6 tons. It was the first time for Adventure Pig to see a killer whale . I didn’t expect them to be so cute. If you’re still hesitating about whether to visit Nagoya Port, don’t hesitate! Come quickly! Seeing a 6-meter-long whale in person is definitely more shocking than what you see in the movies. The children and adults around me were all shouting with excitement. There are two types of dolphins in Nagoya Aquarium: spotted dolphins and bottlenose dolphins. This should be the spotted dolphin mother and baby. Have you seen Aka-chan’s dolphin? It looks very human. The baby looks like a human and always follows its mother. The North Building also has a huge whale specimen and free commemorative photos. Even though Adventure Pig visited alone, he thought Nagoya Aquarium was super fun. What you absolutely cannot miss when you come again is the live explanation of the killer whales and the dolphin show. Remember to check the time in advance because there is only one show every two hours. Because the front pool near the audience is the dolphin pool, it is not available. They put killer whales and their food in the same pool for performances. So, the killer whale shows here are mainly for viewing on screen, but the dolphin shows are really close-up. Let me tell you, I’m inexperienced, so I didn’t get a good seat. If you go to the aquarium to see a killer whale or dolphin show or record a video, remember to choose a seat in the middle of the pool, in the middle row. Don’t sit too close to the sides or too far in front. The dolphin group’s performance really impressed me. They don’t just perform, they work together as a team. We’re heading to the South Building. I found something fun in the hallway between the North and South Buildings that I want to try too: a whale plush raffle. A 1,300 yen prize guaranteed. While waiting in line, I heard someone ahead of me win the grand prize, so I started thinking, if I win a giant whale , should I go to the post office and ship the plush back to Taiwan? But I’m just overthinking it, and it ‘s a bit sad. Otherwise, I’d have won a small black and white one . Anyway, I’m never very lucky in the lottery. It’s okay, I’ll try harder next time. The aquarium at the South Building wasn’t boring after arriving at the building. The South Building showcases various marine life, including the “Sea of Japan,” the “Deep Sea,” and the “Equatorial Sea. ” You can even see lungfish from Australia, which breathe with their lungs, and giant sea turtles. Adventure Pig would like to remind everyone to use Google when looking up the opening hours of the Port of Nagoya Aquarium. The times shown on the map are inaccurate. The aquarium isn’t open until 8 PM every day, and sometimes closes at 5:30 PM. Be sure to check the official website before heading out. The stars of the South Building are undoubtedly the penguins. In front of the large penguin aquarium, many little penguins stop in front of the glass and observe people , giving me the illusion that this is actually a place for penguins to appreciate land mammals. Thank you everyone for watching the video up to this point. Next, we’re heading into the Nagoya Port Fireworks Festival. I’d like to thank the other Japanese people who gave me the best front-row spot to film the 40-minute fireworks display. I’ll edit the highlights for everyone . Let’s get started.
