Beach Walk in Fukuoka🇯🇵Live from Japan
and greetings that you haven’t even been on. Well, I’ve been on the beach swimming and walking, but not with you. So, this is our big chance. Going to walk through this tunnel of greenery. It’s gorgeous here. Lovely treeine beach. The beach is called Marina Town Beach. Whoa, look at this big fella. Whoa, he’s a biggie. Big cicada. Look. Whoa. Really big. Lisa, nice. Look how big the cicada is. Whoa. Whoa. He’s a biggie. All right. Beautiful, though. I’m presuming he’s still alive, but I wouldn’t be too sure about that, would I? Let’s bring it back into normal, then we’ll get on with our walk. How you doing, Lisa? We missed you last night. It was not a good time for you. It was late and we had to walk through the streets of Nishi Jin. Anyway, let me just give him a little poke. No, I don’t want to. I’ll just leave him. Isn’t it’s always tempting, isn’t it, to touch things. Yeah, huge. All right. You can probably hear a few of them. Um, yeah, it’s nice. There’s a baseball field in here, some tennis courts, and a playground. Rainy day today. Oh no, it was late. It was like maybe around 6:00 our time. So it would have been early morning for you. Cassie C. We’re just having a walk on the beach here. Well, we’re heading to the beach and it’s gorgeous because it’s what’s so love. There’s an artist over here. I’ve actually just walked I’ve just walked along to here to start the walk here so that we can finish up and then I’m going to head home, pick up some stuff going into Mark is for lunch and then I’m going to Mizoue Arts um gallery here uh which is a really lovely place to visit. There’s Flower Island through there. He was really large, wasn’t he? Hey, fantastic to see you. Oh, look at the colors today. Amazing. So, we’re going to walk under the trees for a little while. We’ll just I’ll just show you Flower Island first. There we go. There’s Flower Island. Oh, there’s some people on the beach there. It’s really really hot. So, it looks like they are maybe collecting some trash off the beach. But that’s Flower Island. Isn’t it gorgeous? And there’s a big dredge there. I’ll zoom in a little bit. There’s a big dredge there that’s actually doing some harbor cleaning. I’ve already picked a couple of things up off the beach this morning, too. I picked up a plastic bottle and a polystyrene tray. So, I don’t know how they got there. You know, they could have come off a boat. They could have come blown away. They could have somebody could have just dumped them. Here comes a cyclist. Look at Flower Island. So, when we’re on Flower Island, we You can see that little tower. That’s where we end up there. Yeah. Which is really cool. Anyway, let’s do our walk. Yeah. So, the beach is gorgeous. The reason, one of the reasons there’s nobody on the beach. Oh, no. They’re playing They’re not It’s They’re playing something. They’ve got some bats and I don’t know what they’re playing. Bats in a ball. Maybe some sort of game. And then of course looking going in this direction we’ve got we’ll go back under the trees in a minute but we have got the tower Fukuoka Tower. We need to go over there. Need to take you over there as well. So we’ve got the tower there. Fuku Walka Tower. The next high building is the Hilton Hotel. And then beside it, that is the dome, the Pepe dome, the baseball dome with its huge copper roof. Look at that. It’s amaz copper, bronze, maybe something, some sort of metal. Yeah, it’s fabulous, isn’t it? So, all around that area there, Mamoi Fukuattow, there’s lots of nice outdoor artworks and also lots of um nice nature and interesting buildings. So, but it’s very hot to be out sort of just walking around. So, really futuristic. Yeah, they call Fukuoka futuristic Fukuoka. And I never know whether I should be saying Fukuoka. I think it’s Fukuoka. Fukuoka. Fukuoka. Not much difference. Everybody says it a little bit differently. But we’re going to walk here under the trees. I think this guy’s an artist. Or is he monitoring something? Lots of trip hazards. So, if we go flat on on my face, it’s because a root of a tree or a pine cone or something something’s got in the way. Pine cone. Yeah. It’s really lovely. All sandy. It is a man-made beach, of course. Yeah. Lori, fantastic. Nice to see you. Yeah, it’s lovely here. We are about 40 minutes from downtown Fukuoka. Just an easy bus ride. Fabulous to see you, Lori. And Winston, hope everybody’s okay. Yes. So, we’ll do a bit of a beach walk here and then I’ll head down to the water. Japanese beaches. There are some really, really beautiful beaches. Um, but at this time of the year, of course, it’s so hot that the sand is really hot as well. The water is beautiful for swimming. And but really, it’s too hot for just hanging out on the beach. No tripping allowed. Yeah. Always careful where I’m walking. Always try to be. But the minute you take your eyes off the the path ahead of you, of course, it’s and lots of people cycling. So, this is the thing to do is to cycle or walk sort of in the shade. Emily and Carol, awesome. Fabulous to see you. Isn’t that a lovely sight of bicycle? Not going too fast. Oh, we’ve got a little friend. There we go. Oh, he’s another cyclist. Yeah. So, they’re heading in the direct direction of the ferry to um Noima Flower Island. We will visit one more time before I uh leave because I want to see what’s flowering there. And also, I just love it. It’s so And I love the cafe there. Love the cafe. She does the best. She does a lovely cheesecake and also the chiffon cake. Chiffon cake’s amazing. It’s like it is. So, let’s get away from the trees now. We can go just through here and we’ll head down to the beach. Gorgeous though, isn’t it? Look. Then all the apartments here that line the beach. That’s a big one. Wow. It’s a biggie. We’ll look back at them from the um down at the water’s edge. Yeah. So, today’s sort of like a fairly bit of a quiet day. We had a lot of fun yesterday. Went with the kids. Um we went Pokémon shopping. I was need Yeah, trip hazard. You see, look at the steps here. We’ll go down over here a bit further. Um yeah, Pokémon shopping. Shopping for a little friend in the United States. Of course, mine are too big for Pokémon, but they were very helpful and told us what they well helped me purchase a few things. Nothing major, but just a few little things. A water bottle, Eevee, um some stickers, little facecloth, mascot for his bag. Yeah, just little things like that that add up. So, we’re heading for the beach. Gorgeous. Look, we get right down here. We’re going to come up down there by the big banana. The big banana. So, the beach is lovely golden, quite coarse sand, but there is some greenery starting to grow through here, which I suppose is really good because it stops um erosion. Sounds cool. Yeah. And then today, oh, and I found another really cool event that’s happening here at the moment, and that’s the um Yukioi art exhibition, which is immersive art. I saw it in Tokyo, actually. So, I’m going to take the kids next week. We’ll probably be able to take you as well. Um, so that’s really cool. And that’s happening at the station at Hakata Station in the big Look at it now. Look. Woo! Yeah. So, that’ll be really cool. So, I think we’re going to do that next week. The immersive art experiences here are really, really amazing. Look at it. It’s gorgeous. And lots of shells. Whoa. And the sunsets in that direction, of course. So, you probably see my sunsets on Instagram. Try and do one every now and then. Ferry of course goes across to at the end there across to Noco. Isn’t this fabulous though? Lots of fish here. When you’re swimming, it’s hilarious. They’re all leaping out of the water. It’s gets a bit crazy. There’s a bit of sea lettuce um hanging around. They the guys here on the beach come and clean that up off as a Yeah, I mean it’s not very pleasant swimming when you’ve got that sort of wrapping around you. Yeah. So, yeah, the Pokemon Pokemon’s a big thing still, isn’t it? Which is amazing. You know, it was how many years has Pokémon been around? Must be like long time. Yeah. The kids are on holiday. So, which is really, really cool. So, today they’ve gone off. They’ve got stuff to do today. And um so they’ve gone off so I’m on my own and I should be writing my newsletter but my computer I told you last night Kathy my computer screen is just gone completely stripey. It has a fault. It costs a lot to to repair. So tomorrow I’m probably just going to be able to plug it into a monitor and I’m going to write my newsletter tomorrow. How’s that? Yes. [Applause] Yeah. And lovely. I mean, sometimes we can eat there are sometimes herand on the beach as well. And um so they sort of wade in the water to get fish and I guess from the seaweed they can find stuff as well. The sea lettuce. We’ve got a little bit of activity here with these boats going backwards and forwards. They’ve been doing this all morning. Um, they’re picking up something and delivering it here. And right at the end of the beach there, just below the tower, there’s a yellow crane, mobile crane, and that’s coming down, picker up, I think. And that’s coming down and picking up whatever it is they’re delivering and taking it somewhere. Obviously, not accessible by um truck. There they go. They’ve got these these boats. Anyway, let’s walk towards the tower. So, just a very very quiet beach walk this morning, kids. It’s beautiful. We’ll have to do one in the sunset, too. Oh, it’s apple. So, replacing anything with apple. I think it’s like um Yeah. No, it’s 100,000 yen. So, it’s Yeah, not worth it. It’s okay. I need to My computer’s getting a bit old, I think. I can’t remember how old it is. So, it’s a MacBook Pro. Maybe four, five years old. They don’t last forever. That’s That’s for sure. Here we go. Isn’t it lovely? Look, few clouds in the sky. Fukualka is an amazing city. Very futuristic. The airport is right in the middle of the city as well. So, don’t see any airplanes at the moment, but they look as if they’re landing downtown. They virtually are. Um, I think the airport from downtown is 10 minutes. Um, and it’s just a subway ride away, which is really amazing. Really, really cool. But how’s the water look? It’s beautiful. Wa. [Applause] So, we’ve got some walls here. Um, protection, I guess. People go out there, stand there, and fish on them. So early in the morning’s a good time to be Yeah. I remember on Periscope I used to get up and do the sunrise and I’d walk out there. The sun comes up at 4:30 a.m. here. So I was very keen in those days. No way I’m getting up at 4:30 a.m. for you now. Yes. Yeah, exactly. Oh, here’s a shoe. There’s a shoe. H I could pick it up, but I’ve got to carry it. Somebody might come and claim their shoe. But you know, really the beach is pretty good. Kathy, you’ll remember when they had the big typhoon here and um this beach was just absolutely covered in trash at the time. It was terrible. They had to bring in these big bulldozers to clean it all. And I came down every day. So all of the rubbish that came here was washed down the rivers. There had been a lot of landslides and it was all washed down rivers and I guess came in off the sea as well. It was awful. But they cleaned it up. Yes, Kathy. We live in disposable society, don’t we? So cruise ships come in between those two islands there. So cruise ships come in quite often. Usually they’re just here for the day. They get a lot from um the rest of Southeast Asia, of course. So a lot coming in from Singapore and um Hong Kong, Korea. Yeah, lots and lots. And they just come in and they do shop for the day. You know, Japan is amazing with shopping. You think you’re not going to shop when you’re here, but people are always saying they needed to buy another suitcase when they got here. Now the shopping is it’s on a whole different level from what we’re used to which is really cool. So my big theme now is throwing away the guide book and traveling with the guide. So throw away the guide book. The guide book always tells you turn right when you get to this corner and you turn right and there are thousands of people there. But what happens if you turn left? Aha. your guide will let you know. Always looking for a um a new angle on life. Isn’t this gorgeous though? So, we’ll walk back up um under the trees. I’ll do a sunset one of these evenings. That’ll be in this direction. Patricia Ka, nice to see you. Yeah, nice to see you. Fabulous. Sending you buckets of sunshine and warmth and heat. And yes, I have got a little bit sunburnt while I’ve been here. These all have amazing views as you can see. So, we’ll head up here. Oh, the big bananas he’s setting up. So, the big banana um serves food like hot dogs and French fries and that sort of stuff. We actually have a big sign on the beach at the moment which will come down soon. We don’t take any notice of this because there’s actually it says no swimming, but the locals will swim. Gorgeous day here. This says no swimming because there are actually no lifeguards on the beach at the moment. Um, so usually there is, see that little shed there? There’s usually some lifeguards. Well, some security in there. I suppose they if they’re looking, they might run into the water to save you. This is big banana. Looks like he’s going to be opening very soon. So, toilets and changing here. And then there’s a lovely sort of uh wooden area here. Big banana. Yeah, it’s really day after day is like this. Patricia, it’s really lovely. So, comes another cyclist or it might be the same one coming back now. A couple more heading off as well. Con. Yeah. So, in the afternoon, this fills up with all the kids because they’re all actually not reading that sign. And heading into the water. And here we go. We’ve got the big banana. So, he’s selling some drinks. You can get a beer and a nice cold drink. Got shaved ice. Looks like he’s pretty well good to go, which is great. Yeah. So, it’s good to come down and get a little bit of a snack here. Yeah, Patricia, it’s really cool. It’s good. Well, let’s go a little bit further just because Oh, there’s the security man there. He’s under the trees. Yeah, I don’t think he could even see the the beach, the water. There’s the Yeah, we’ll just go a little bit further along here. It’s nice. Oh, there’s a comrade flying over. But they do have these amazing big hawks here. Um Oh, it’s nice under the trees. Look. Amazing big hawks. So, the stadium, the baseball team is called the Seahawks, of course. Yeah. There we go. Yeah. And this car park here for if you want to come to the beach for the day or an hour or two, they’ve got a car park. No, I haven’t seen Joe for ages, Lori. I need to I was thinking about him yesterday. I need to send a message and see where he’s at. I’m glad you reminded me. Oh, lovely. Cool. Oh, so here’s this boat coming in. I’m not sure what there. So that’s coming in. Oh, it’s hot. Little sweaty. He’s coming in. And this crane is going to lift whatever it is off him. It’s They’re in sort of like big net nets. They must be doing some building down the end there. Anyway, they’re all hard at work. The dome, the Hilton Hotel. Hilton’s a little bit out of town, isn’t it? But I guess it is uh built mostly for the baseball and yeah, event weddings. A lot of weddings held over there. Yeah. So, it’s sort of built more for that. Lots of other hotels around downtown. Here we go. Nice view. Look at that. Whoa. Some clouds just to add some interest. Cool. Anyway, everybody, I’m Yeah. Oh, now he’s got the net. And off he goes. It’s as quick as that. I could go for a walk down there and check it out, but they’re all busy work working. So fun. Okay, coming back to normal and then I’m going to uh Patricia, I’ll be back at the end of August. I am I’m leaving here on the 9th of August. Flying to Seoul for a connecting flight to Vancouver. Four nights in Vancouver, four nights in Seattle, and then I’m back to Seoul. I’ve got a bit of well, let’s say unfinished business to attend to there. And um I love spending my love spending time in Soul, as you know. Um Yep. And then I’m back to New Zealand. And then a busy busy season of lots of tourists coming up, lots of people ditching the guide book, which is nice. Anyway, let me turn to the front camera. Sorry about this, kids. My face will be right in your face. Hey, thanks for joining me. Really fabulous to have you. Little beach walk today. I Yes. Little bit of a beach walk. Look at that. What? Used to always do this, didn’t I? Yeah. Okay, everybody, take care. Remember, tread lightly. Leave no trace. Ditch the guide book. We’ll see you all tomorrow. Take care. Thanks, Kathy. Thanks, Lisa. Thanks, Patricia, Carol, and Emily. Everybody that’s been here, it was really awesome to have you. Thank you so much. Did I forget anybody? I know there’s some people watching that probably I should know who they are and I don’t. So, hello and welcome and make sure that you comment next time. Take care. Yeah, Kathy. Yeah, it’s busy busy. Witomo cave suddenly cave is taking off. I’ve got um yeah, four bookings just for the caves. So, that’s amazing. Amazing. Last year I had one and it canled because that’s a really really big day out. Anyway, there we go. Take care everybody and we’ll see you all again really really soon. Beach walking Japan. Take care. Have a lovely day. Have a great Thursday. Bye for now. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah. Tommo. I’ll tell you a bit more about it Kathy later. Take care. See you.
