South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun is to make his first visit to Japan since taking office earlier this month to meet his counterpart Iwaya Takeshi.
The South Korean Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that Cho will make a two-day visit to Japan from Tuesday.
When the two spoke by phone on Thursday, Cho expressed hope to work with Iwaya to build a more solid and future-oriented bilateral relations.
They are expected to reaffirm deepening cooperation between Japan and South Korea as well as trilateral cooperation with the United States, and discuss responses to North Korea’s nuclear and missile development.
The ministry says this will be Cho’s first face-to-face meeting with his counterpart.
Cho is scheduled to leave Japan on Wednesday for the US where he will hold talks with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
