Going to Japan? Be sure not to miss this place.
Tashirojima—affectionately known as Cat Island—is a tiny, rural island off the coast of Ishinomaki City in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. It’s famous for its hundreds of free-roaming cats, which outnumber the human residents by a wide margin. Locals believe cats bring good luck, especially to fishermen, and dogs are banned to protect the feline population.
How to get there (From Sendai Station) 🚝
– Take the JR Senseki Line to Ishinomaki Station (~1 hour)
– Or take a highway bus (~80 minutes)
⚠️ Please refrain from feeding the cats
