Hidden local street food spots in Osaka, Japan

11 Popular Shops Loved by Locals in Osaka’s Shopping Street! Hi! I’m Akanemaru, born and raised in Japan. We’ll introduce a hidden gem of a shopping street in Osaka. When you think of Osaka, famous spots like Dotonbori
and Universal Studios Japan come to mind, but if you go a little further,
there are many great spots that aren’t well known yet. If you want to avoid crowded tourist spots
and enjoy a relaxing way to explore, or if you want to feel the unique atmosphere
and lively spirit of Osaka, this video is a must-watch. Now, let’s get started! This time, we’ll introduce Komagawa Shopping Street in Osaka. It takes about 30 minutes by subway from Shin-Osaka Station,
where the Shinkansen stops. It’s about 20 minutes by train from Dotonbori,
the popular tourist spot. Near the shopping street, there are Komagawa Nakano Station and Harinakano Station,
and you can get there from either one. Komagawa Nakano Station is about a 3-minute walk away, and Harinakano Station is right in front of the shopping street. Komagawa Shopping Street, which we’re introducing today, is about 730 meters long and has over 200 shops,
including restaurants and grocery stores. Many shops are closed on Tuesdays,
so be sure to keep that in mind when you visit. Also, many stores in Japanese shopping streets
don’t accept credit cards, so it’s a good idea to bring cash. By the way, we’re participating in a project
called Osaka Morning. It’s a project that introduces the charm of local spots
of Osaka to international tourists through food. We’ll introduce 11 shops from this shopping street
that are part of the Osaka Morning project, where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast or brunch. First up is Shio to Nori to Okome to. It’s a rice ball specialty shop that opened in February 2025. They sell takeout rice balls outside the store,
but you can also dine in. Each rice ball is handmade, so you can enjoy that soft,
fluffy texture. There is a wide variety of fillings, but this time, let’s try Okaka & Bacon,
their top recommendation. Bonito flakes are stir-fried
and seasoned with a sweet and savory sauce, then mixed with bacon and mayonnaise. The fluffy texture is absolutely irresistible! The rich aroma of the bonito flakes and the savory bacon fat
go perfectly with the rice, and it’s incredibly delicious. Next up is Tentora. It’s a long-established deli shop that opened in 1976. It’s super popular with locals for offering tasty deli food
at affordable prices. They offer a wide selection of deli foods, but we’re featuring the Egg-Stuffed Croquette,
their most popular item. It’s a crispy potato croquette
filled with eggs mixed in mayonnaise. It’s chilled, but still retains its crispy texture. The sweetness of the potatoes combined with
a subtle tartness from the ketchup makes it addictive. Next up is Gogou-an. It’s a popular soba noodle restaurant among locals. The interior has a Japanese atmosphere,
making it a great place to relax and enjoy your meal. They also offer udon and rice bowls,
but the top recommendation is the Ten-zaru. It’s a set of cold soba noodles
served with freshly fried tempura. The tempura is made after your order, so it’s piping hot. By the way, the soba noodles are carefully handmade. The noodles, mixed with Japanese yam,
have a firm texture and are easy to eat. The rich soy sauce and dashi-based broth
pairs perfectly with the noodles. The shrimp tempura is thick and satisfying to eat. It has a plump texture,
and the shrimp’s natural sweetness makes it really delicious. Next up is SHIBA Coffee. It’s a café that opened in April 2025. It’s in a back alley, and it’s a great spot
if you’re looking to enjoy a quiet, relaxing breakfast. Their cakes are also popular,
but we’re featuring their toast breakfast set. It comes with salad, yogurt, and a cup of coffee,
and all at an affordable price. The coffee is freshly brewed one cup at a time after you order,
giving it a rich aroma and a smooth flavor. The toast is thick, but fluffy with a light texture. The saltiness of the butter
enhances the natural sweetness of the bread. It comes with salad and yogurt on the side,
making it satisfying. Next is Crepe Cafe COTON. It’s a café that opened in May 2022. Their main specialty is crepes, but they also offer soft serve,
Greek yogurt, and a variety of other menu items. The interior is stylish and cozy. This time, we’ll introduce an acai bowl,
which is popular even in Japan. It’s topped with bananas, granola, chia seeds, and plenty of mango and berries, so it’s satisfying to eat. It has a tart flavor from the fruit, but is drizzled with honey,
which makes it sweet and delicious. If you had this in Hawaii, it would probably cost more than
twice as much, so it’s a great deal here. Next is Kyoto Goen. It’s a Japanese sweets shop that opened in 2021. They offer a variety of classic Japanese treats
and rice crackers at affordable prices. This time, we’re featuring their popular warabi mochi. It’s generously coated with roasted soybean flour,
giving it a nice aroma. The pieces are cut larger than usual,
making it a satisfying texture. The warabi mochi is mixed with brown sugar syrup,
so the sweetness is just right. It has a chewy yet soft texture,
and it’s an authentic warabi mochi. Next up is YABU COFFEE. It’s a coffee bean specialty shop that opened in February 2024
and sells over 30 types of beans at all times. They roast small batches of beans with care,
and the shop is very popular with locals. This time, we’re featuring their coffee float,
which is iced coffee topped with vanilla ice cream. It’s made with coffee beans called Brazil Chocolat, which offer a subtle sweetness
and aroma reminiscent of premium chocolate. It pairs perfectly with milk,
which enhances the flavor of the ice cream. The vanilla ice cream is not too sweet
and has a refreshing aftertaste. Next is Casual Dining Genie. This restaurant opened in June 2024
and offers dishes like burger steak and pasta. The spacious interior makes it a great spot
for those who want to enjoy a relaxed meal. They have a variety of dishes,
but we’re featuring their especially popular steak set. It uses domestic sirloin,
which is generously sized and very satisfying. It has a wonderful aroma of garlic sauce. The meat is tender with just the right amount of fat,
giving it a melt-in-your-mouth texture. The soy sauce flavor fills your mouth,
and you can’t stop eating it! Next up is Mamegashi Mamemura. This shop sells handmade Japanese bean snacks, carefully crafted by artisans using time-honored methods. They offer around 40 varieties,
including flavors like sweet red bean and matcha. Their most popular item is Shikisai-Mame,
a colorful mix of different bean snacks. It combines several kinds of beans and rice crackers, so you can enjoy a variety of flavors and textures in one bag. They go really well with sake,
so it’s a good idea to have them together. Next is Moritaya Nikuten. It’s a historic butcher shop founded in 1894. They offer a wide variety of meats,
including popular Wagyu known worldwide. Their top seller is the freshly fried Wagyu croquette
made right in front of the store. This croquette won the Gold Prize
at the 2015 Croquette Grand Prix. The potatoes inside are moist
and smooth with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. The sweetness of the onions and the rich Wagyu fat
are a perfect match, making it absolutely delicious. The last shop is Tako Bouzu. It’s a very popular takoyaki shop often featured on TV. Compared to the takoyaki shops in popular tourist spots
like Dotonbori, you can enjoy their takoyaki at about half the price. Their recommended item is topped with ponzu sauce,
mayonnaise, and a sprinkle of ichimi chili pepper. Compared to the classic takoyaki sauce,
ponzu has a refreshing citrus flavor. The spiciness of ichimi chili pepper
and mayonnaise go perfectly together. It’s affordable and tastes great! Komagawa Shopping Street is a place
where you can experience not just food, but also the local atmosphere and culture,
so be sure to visit when you come to Osaka. Osaka Morning introduces many shopping streets
around Osaka city, not just Komagawa shopping street. There is a link in the description box, so check it out. Enjoy a delicious breakfast in a local area in Osaka! Well, that’s it for today! See you in the next video!

  1. Samurai Junjiro continue to surprise me with places that i've never heard of but are actually fine.

  2. Another great vídeo, i always enjoy this channel, in Brazil one popular item in our markets is the pastel, a fried dough with a big diversity of fillings, they can be salty or sweet. The most popular fillings are beef, cheese and palmito, a very common vegetable in Brazil.

  3. Thanks for the guide…need to attend some conference in Osaka later this year and will extend our stay to revisit some old favorites and probably Okinawa as we never been there before
