The Japan Meteorological Agency is warning citizens in the Kanto region as its ninth typhoon of the season, also known as Typhoon Krosa, is expected to hit the Izu islands, south of Tokyo, as soon as August 1.

Strong winds, big waves, landslides, and rivers that might overflow from heavy rain have been forecasted.

As of 6:45 a.m. on July 31, the typhoon was moving slowly north over the Pacific Ocean, about 320 kilometers north-northeast of Chichijima island, which is part of the Ogasawara islands far south of Tokyo.

Reports say the typhoon is generating maximum wind speeds of 90 kph and maximum instantaneous wind speeds of 126 kph.
