72 HOURS in KYOTO on a BUDGET π΄ | Wagyu, Street Food & Fushimi Inari π€€ β©οΈ
Kyoto is straight out of a dream. But how much does three days here really cost? And is it even possible to do everything we want in just three days? We are going to try and on a budget. We want to experience local life, try local food, try Wagu, visit Fushimi Narin Naka, see Geisha Shiki Market, and become a samurai. Easy, right? After a quick bullet train ride from Tokyo, we made it to Kyoto. Made it to Kyoto. We’re on a 500 meter walk our accommodation with all our bags. We checked into this hotel. This lobby area would become my office for the next 3 weeks that was pretty much always empty. We worked remotely in the week. All the hotels we stayed in in Japan had free beauty amenities, free drink stations. This one also had a free whiskey hour every day and a bunch of things you can rent from reception. And this is what you get for $35 a night. This bed one day two things to hang stuff microw. Oh wow, this is so cool. Let’s do this kitchen. Toilet bathroom, bath, shower. Accommodation in Kyoto I found a bit more expensive. So it took me a while to find this gem of a hotel at this price. Continue to find some food. Walking in the streets of Kyoto to a grocery store feels like you’ve been transported to a different time. Fresh, good, and affordable food is so accessible in Japan, even in small convenience stores. What you get for 650 rand. [Music] And of course, sweet potatoes. Japan is obsessed. If you travel while working like us and you want to do it longterm and sustainable, making food is one of the best tricks. As if the first few hours in Kyoto wasn’t good enough, that afternoon it started snowing, which led to the most epic morning walk the next day. Just listen to that crunch. [Music] If you find yourself in Japan during winter, you have to try the curry buns. you will get addicted. They have these fried, it’s almost like a fed group, but it’s like fried with like katsu curry basically inside. So good. And then it was time to head out to one of Kyoto’s most well-known landmarks. Just a trip to somewhere is an experience on its own. So cool. [Music] If you don’t want to worry about staying connected in a new country, you can use my discount code here for Olafly Eims. That guy is so nice. Give him a raise. Like the cleaner guy came up to us. Can’t speak a word of English and he was just like trying to help us. Kyoto is so different. We made it to Fushimi Inari, one of the most popular places to visit in Kyoto. This is Fushimi Inari. It’s dedicated to Inari Okami, the Shinto god of rice, saki, and most importantly for modern Japan, business prosperity. [Music] Each one of these thousands of Tory gates is a donation primarily from a business. And having your company name literally carved, the shrine offers a menu of gate sizes and donation amount based on the size of the company’s ambition and its budget. The more successful a business becomes after donating, the more it reinforces the belief in the shrine’s power, inspiring other corporations to donate, which in turn becomes a world famous free tourist attraction. [Music] This is quite a climb. We still climbing since. This is crazy. You walk and you walk and you walk and everywhere there’s like tiny shrines and cute little shops and like it’s like so beautiful. It’s a lot of stairs to climb, but it’s fun. We made it to the top. Fushimi Nari is actually open 24 hours of the day and it is completely free to visit. So on the way home, we grabbed some dinner at a local market. Japan has the best fried chicken. By the way, I got takyaki, which is like fried octopus, and I had it once in the Philippines, and I didn’t enjoy it. I I liked one, but I couldn’t eat a lot of it. So, let’s see if this is better. It’s so hot. It’s really good, but I just don’t think I can eat like more than two of them. I thought this is like syrupy sweet, but it tastes like soy sauce. Oh, really? Is it not sweet? This is the second time the day that you have a box with like six balls in it. Yeah, I imagine something different. I’m sure that is very nice. The next day, we headed over to Nin Zaka, where it feels like you’ve stepped back in time and we’ll find some of the most interesting food. The matcha one. Matcha. Okay. Do you like it? It’s more potato than I remember has, but Kirby beef sushi. Thank you. Oh my goodness. Sushi texture. Sushi just with a beef taste and more chewy. It’s got a bit of um wasabi and a bit of soy. Very good. I really can. Yeah, but it’s a street with like traditional Japanese houses everywhere. And a lot of the houses has been converted into shops or stores. I’ve never seen a country like an ice cream as much as Japan. There’s ice creams everywhere in every flavor. There’s so many foods to try here. They do love their sweet potato. In the previous video, you can see more about our time here, like the most beautiful Starbucks in an old traditional house, a matcha cafe, and we also visit Uji. On our way to Nikashiki Market, not how you pronounce it. Old food stalls that people has had in their families for like hundreds of years. From there, that cool area to the market. It’s about a 2k walk. So, we walk, you just walk any area on Kyo the streets and discover like the most insane beautiful places and food. And it looks amazing. Are you ready? Yes. Octopus tastes like the sauce is really good. Wagu literally means Japanese cow. It’s known for its intense marbling tenderness and rich buttery flavor. So we’re having and so Kirby Uimi and Matsu Zaka are like the elite beef brands. So what we could be eating is probably Kobe cuz Kirby is like around the corner and known as the finest beef in the world. In an upcoming video, we will go to Coobe. So subscribe, do not miss it. So good. First meal has arrived. Yeah, I think it’s going to be insane. Salad miso soup. Oh wow. Oh my goodness. [Music] They make the nicer salads. Like the sauce is just so delicious. So fresh. It was 1,100 rand for all of that. Two a5 Wagu meals with rice, miso, soup, vegetables, salad, and saki. Japan is really not that expensive. One one to do a saki tasting. Yes. A lot of saki here. 100 yen saki. A reminder that for every 10 new subscribers to this channel, we feed or donate a meal to a stray animal. It doesn’t cost you anything to subscribe and a stray animal gets a meal. Thank you so much. After a delicious breakfast at a local chain, this is 100 rand. That’s 100 rand. and enjoying a quiet morning in the park, Japanese people often use their phones, wallets, or handbags as a way to keep their seats. Coming from South Africa, this blew our minds. Everybody walks, everybody waves at train people, and it feels a little bit like you’re in Sims. One of the countries we’ve been in where we’ve seen the most families out like really making the most of the time in nature. Like dads and moms walking around with kids all the time. On the weekends, the parks are full. Everybody’s out enjoying stuff. And then it was time to become a samurai. This is not just a samurai museum. It is where you get dressed up, learn, and act like a samurai for an hour. It was a great experience, and we learned so much. If you’d like to learn more about another big part of Japan’s history, geishas, you can watch my previous video where we saw geishas in Kyoto. We’re at this super cute place called blender. Blender smells like meat. It smells so good. You grill your own patty and it’s like a traditional hamburger, but instead of a bun, it is on rice and with a raw egg on top. I think I’m so hungry. Whenever you get to a restaurant, they always bring you water, which is so nice. Did you enjoy your samurai experience? I’m a samurai. It was really cool. I actually think that I enjoyed the history more. I don’t know. Samurai is so involved in the not necessarily the politics, but in the ruling of the country. This is your raw egg, your condiments, and then you make your you grill your burger your patty on it. I never like pizza, but I think I like absolutely love it. And like yesterday, I was craving it. Japan just makes it so delicious. And this is probably the best one I’ve had today. So good. Sweet. Like they come around and then like translate stuff for us like how to do it. So you can decorate your rice. I’ve never had so like just like barbecue chopsticks. I’m struggling a little bit with the [Music] good. So each one is different. So my second one and you have to have it with sauce which is this. You get three burgers and then they paid with different stuff. Mine is like 250 and it’s insane. It’s just these two guys that does everything in here. That was really good. It was so good. I brought my parents back here a few weeks later. How do you end off any place in Japan without a trip to Edon? Wow, this is insane. These are so freaking awesome. Oh, I think this is going to be insane. These are all watches, Jared. What is this? Hello. And look at those cherry blossoms coming out. I hope you enjoyed this video and that it will help you plan your upcoming trip or that you just enjoy traveling with us.
