A tsunami warning of up to 3 meters has been issued along Japan’s Pacific coast from Hokkaido to
Wakayama. This comes after an intense earthquake struck east of the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia.
The agency plans to hold a press conference at 10:10 a.m.

The US Geological Survey says the quake occurred at around 8:25 a.m. Japan time on Wednesday. The USGS says it struck at a depth of 19.3 kilometers with an estimated magnitude of 8.0.

The government has set up an information liaison office at the crisis management center in the Prime Minister’s Office. Officials from relevant ministries and agencies are contacting local governments to gather information.
