OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested a 21-year-old man over the alleged murder of his mother, a Russian national, at her residence in Osaka City last month, .

The arrest of Kaneki Ito, an office worker living in Shizuoka Prefecture, is his second in the case, reports Nippon News Network (July 28).

On June 26, Ito allegedly hit his mother, 50-year-old Elena, dozens of times in the apartment Naniwa Ward. He also strangled her and stole 15,000 yen in cash.

During initial questioning, he said, “I hit her several times, strangled her with both hands for more than five minutes and broke her neck.” However, he has remained silent regarding allegations of robbery-murder.

The results of an autopsy revealed that Elena died of heat stroke.

Ito had already been arrested on suspicion of breaking into a neighboring apartment in order to jump onto the balcony of his mother’s residence.

An acquaintance of the deceased Elena said, “Three months ago, she told me, ‘He beat me up.’ She said that sometimes her son beats her up.”

Police are now seeking the motive for the crime.
